REPORTS TO: Vice President of Manufacturing and Supply Chain
PURPOSE
The Hardware Technical Project Manager leads the development and business success of new, innovative medical device products from concept to completion. As an advocate for the users, you will guide a cross-functional team from concept through process validation, ensuring cost, schedule, quality and performance objectives are tracked and met. Requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, excellent leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of user needs.
The Project Manger will recommend and take action to direct, analyze and guide the team to find solutions to issues while providing coaching/mentoring to others on project management principles and techniques.
Responsible for driving the team to deliver the definition of product requirements, leading specification development, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver hardware designs from concept through development and to mass production. Partner with the NPI PM to ensure the delivery of supply chain and factory readiness. Able to manage the critical path, deliver contingency plans, track risks using a risk prioritization system, ensure mitigation plans are in place and guide the team through tough technical trade-offs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Create, coordinate and maintain complex integrated project plans
● Develop a strong understanding of user needs and be an advocate for the users
● Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities
● Manage project information to support team decision making
● Perform critical path and project risk analysis
● Identify gaps, potential bottlenecks or delays, and then challenge assumptions and propose options to close gaps and get projects back on schedule
● Manage meetings - including setting agendas, organizing meeting times, and taking meeting minutes.
● Coordinate activities with external collaborators and contract manufacturers
● Share best practices with project teams and foster continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and interacting with team members.
● Facilitate the requirement and analysis phase of engagement to capture customer needs and develop project scope.
● Facilitate effective decision making and issue resolution
● Manage process for system and subsystem requirements, including management of traceability
● Facilitate Risk Management process according to ISO 14971
● Lead cross-functional communication and collaboration with functional area peers, working proactively to ensure team unity
● Communicate freely with the leadership team and other team members to meet project, client, and company goals
● Manage vendor and business partner relationships where appropriate for the delivery of customer engagement.
● Organize and lead development builds, meetings, and activities at manufacturing facilities
● Maintain a positive, can-do attitude and embrace a culture of customer success and operational excellence.
● Drive design verification, reliability testing, validation, and regulatory compliance activities
● Proactively drive and develop CI (Continuously Improvement) and CR (Cost Reduction) projects with the JDM partner and Openwater global cross-functional teams for product and process improvements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION
● BS/BA in science, engineering, or business administration, or equivalent
● Formal exposure to project management methods and techniques
EXPERIENCE
● 7+ years project management, product development, and/or relevant experience
● Experience leading at least 7 consumer electronics and/or medical device products through full product development cycles from concept to mass production
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING
● Problem solving skills and ability to coordinate project related activities
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills are needed
● Medical device area knowledge including quality and regulatory issues
● Contract manufacturing handling experience
● Advanced knowledge of a project and portfolio management tool
● Ability to escalate and drive management decisions in relation to project execution and resource needs.
● Deep understanding of key product lifecycle management concepts with the ability to explain this effectively to management or multi-functional teams
● Experience working with cross functional teams spread across time zones
● Experience successfully working toward common goals with cross-functional internal and external teams comprised of technical professionals by supporting, encouraging, and sharing information
● Is thorough when performing work, conscientious and attentive to detail, and uses logical thinking that is well organized and methodical
● Is efficient in producing results that are delivered timely, can multi-task productively, and applies time management processes and procedures effectively
● Proficiency with relevant systems engineering methods (requirements management, design control, risk management according to ISO 14971)
● Must be comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment with changing priorities
● Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and effectively communicate with senior management.
● Experience defining product requirements and working with R&D to ensure development of products based on customer and business requirements
● Chinese and English: fluency in both languages (spoken and written) is required to effectively communicate with suppliers and partners.
