About the Role

As Principal Electrical Engineer at Openwater, you will be responsible for leading the electronics development for our next generation medical device technologies.  You must be a proactive, strong problem solver, and a creative engineer who can function independently, give guidance to less experienced engineers, and work with cross functional groups.  We are looking for an extremely energetic, self-motivated individual who takes initiative in a constantly-changing working environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Organization and leadership of electrical engineering activities.

  • Creation, bring-up, testing & validation, maintenance, and enhancement of high quality multilayer, high pin count, high performance, printed circuit boards.

  • Design, analyze and weigh system trade-offs including routing/breakout studies, component selection and placement/floorplanning, power delivery options, setting up design constraints, routing, and post-processing of complex, high speed, multilayer printed circuit boards with considerations for design for manufacturability, test, assembly, RF, EMC, and EMI.

  • Interface with a cross-functional team of engineers, biologists, and medical professionals.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS/MS in EE plus at least 10 years experience

  • PCB design and assembly (PCBA): hardware specification, schematic capture, symbol creation, netlist, place and route, board layer stackup, BOM, etc.

  • High volume electronics manufacturing processes including  controlled impedance modeling, aspect ratios, lamination constructions, fine pitch SMT and wire bonding processes and associated manufacturing techniques, materials, specifications, component selection, test and inspection methodologies, and quality assurance

  • Experience with medical and consumer electronics product development.

  • Experience with embedded systems/processors and DSP/FPGA (familiarity with Xilinx  tools a plus)

  • Experience with lab bring-up / debug.

  • Experience with various communication protocols (USB, SPI, I2C and UART) and high-speed serial links (MIPI, LVDS, etc.)

  • Experience with camera sensors and SOM integration.

  • Experience with high-speed memory system design (e.g. DDR3, LPDDR3.)

  • Familiarity with surface mount, flexible circuits, and wafer-level packaging technologies.

  • Power delivery and design for low power, high efficiency systems; Switch Mode Power Supply experience a plus.

  • Experience with high-speed board design/signal integrity.

  • Experience with high voltage circuits, analog/digital circuit design, or thermal design/analysis experience is a plus.

  • Experience with Altium and other PCB CAD tools.

  • Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools like SPICE, PSpice, or LTspice.

  • Experience with laser drivers and/or ultrasound transceivers is a plus.

  • Experience with C/C++ for driver-level software is a plus.

  • US Work authorization required.

Salary range: $170-$230K
