About the Team

The OpenAI for Education team is responsible for defining how students and education institutions embrace AI — shaping the strategy, partnerships, and programs that bring AI into teaching, learning, research, and institutional globally. We work directly with students and across K-12 and Higher Education to build trusted, scalable paths for adoption and to ensure OpenAI’s products and approach meet the unique needs of the education sector.

About the Role

We’re looking for an exceptional Strategy and Ops operator to join our Education team focused on shaping and executing high impact initiatives while improving and running the operating cadence of the organization. This role is ideal for someone with strong operating principles and who can craft high-level strategies and translate them into execution.

You’ll serve as a central operator and connective thread across the Education team—bringing clarity to priorities, improving systems and processes, and driving growth initiatives forward. You should be comfortable operating in ambiguity, making decisions with a high degree of ownership, and collaborating across a highly cross-functional environment.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and drive 1–2 high-impact initiatives, from problem definition through execution and measurement

  • Model and analyze technical and business data to inform strategy and operating decisions

  • Partner closely with Education, Growth, Marketing, Communications, Finance, and Go-To-Market teams, and serve as a representative for the Education function in cross-functional workstreams

  • Support growth strategy development across B2B and B2C efforts

  • Build business cases and narratives to support decisions

  • Analyze and evaluate new projects and partnership opportunities (including technical + business diligence)

  • Build and improve systems and processes that make the org run better (automations, dashboards, tooling, documentation)

  • Automate operational workflows where possible to reduce toil and increase speed

  • Develop working plans, coordinate stakeholders, unblock teams, and deliver outcomes on timelines

  • Support strategic planning processes for the Education org (goals, prioritization, planning cycles)

  • Support B2B pipeline and sales and revenue operations

  • Run key operating rhythms (business reviews, OKR tracking, executive updates)

  • Tie together workstreams across teams to ensure alignment, execution, and clear ownership

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience in Strategy & Operations, business operations, product strategy, or similar roles, ideally within tech, finance, or consulting

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills; comfortable structuring ambiguous problems with data; strong experience with revenue operations.

  • Experience improving operational systems/processes; automation experience is a strong plus

  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional GTM initiatives across Sales, Product, & Operations in dynamic, high-growth environments

  • Are comfortable with the ambiguity of early-stage or scaling organizations, particularly for complex or technical products

  • Are highly organized and adaptable, able to prioritize across a dynamic portfolio of projects while adjusting quickly as business needs evolve

  • Have a builder mindset and enjoy creating structure where none exists

  • Strong communicator with executive presence and can drive alignment across diverse teams
