About the Team

The Employee Tech & Experience (ETX) team shapes how every OpenAI employee interacts with technology. We ensure every person at OpenAI can do their most important work—securely, effortlessly, and at velocity. Our scope spans helpdesk, systems operations, and asset logistics, and we operate with a “design first” mindset: friction is a signal, and every interaction should feel simple, fast, and intuitive. The secure thing should be the easy thing.

As OpenAI scales rapidly across geographies and environments, we are reimagining internal technology as a seamless, AI-augmented experience that meets people where they are and anticipates needs before they surface.

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Employee Tech and Experience to lead the team that helps everyone at OpenAI stay productive and supported. ETX brings together Helpdesk, SysOps, and Logistics to deliver a seamless and reliable employee experience from onboarding through day to day operations. You will elevate how people get help, access tools, and resolve issues, moving from reactive support to proactive, AI powered automation that anticipates needs, reduces friction, and strengthens both productivity and security.

This role calls for a leader who builds trust, creates clarity, and develops strong teams. You will partner closely with Engineering, Security, and Workplace to ensure the platforms they build land smoothly and feel intuitive for employees. You will use data, empathy, and thoughtful design to understand where people encounter friction and turn those insights into simple and durable improvements. Your work will shape what great employee experience feels like at OpenAI.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

Scale & Strategy

  • Lead ETX across Helpdesk, SysOps, and Logistics & Asset Management.

  • Scale global support while improving reliability, security, and speed.

  • Redesign IT processes to proactively eliminate friction and paper cuts.

  • Shift from ticket-based operations to proactive, data-driven experience management.

Automation & AI Enablement

  • Use AI and automation to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and streamline everyday workflows.

  • Expand self-service and zero-touch systems to empower users instantly.

  • Design automation that removes steps, not just accelerates them.

Lifecycle, Procurement & Controls

  • Unify procurement and lifecycle operations for efficiency and transparency.

  • Maintain accurate asset tracking and ownership end-to-end for everyone.

  • Maintain operational effectiveness on embedded controls and compliance.

Data, Insights & Digital Experience

  • Build clear employee experience metrics to understand reliability, performance, and the effort required to get work done.

  • Use data to identify and eliminate recurring friction points.

  • Prioritize improvements that reduce repetitive work and handoffs.

  • Define and publish SLAs that reflect the speed, reliability, and responsiveness employees need to stay productive.

Culture & Leadership

  • Build a culture of craftsmanship, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop future IT leaders with deep empathy and urgency.

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Security, Workplace, and People Tech to shape a cohesive cross org experiences and ensure endpoint, VDI, and deployment platforms land smoothly and reliably.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • 10+ years leading high impact technology or operations teams in high growth environments, with a strong track record developing managers and future leaders.

  • Proven track record scaling teams through hypergrowth, from early build out to mature, global operations.

  • Strong people leader who hires thoughtfully, coaches well, and builds healthy, high trust teams.

  • Experience shifting organizations from reactive support to proactive, data and automation driven operations.

  • Comfortable leading change across functions and bringing clarity and focus as priorities and scale evolve quickly.
