About the Team
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity. The Communications team shapes how we tell our story externally and align internally on our mission. We manage everything from launches and executive comms to international PR and community. To do this at scale, we need strong operational systems.

About the Role
We’re looking for a business operations manager to build and run the systems that power our Communications team. This role requires excellent organizational instincts, strong judgment, and a knack for designing repeatable frameworks in a fast-paced environment. You’ll partner closely with the Head of Comms Strategy & Ops to design planning cycles, manage budgets and headcount, run reporting, and ensure launches and campaigns are executed seamlessly.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance.

In this role, you will:

  • Own comms operating systems: planning, budget tracking, headcount, and measurement.

  • Lead reporting: comms scorecard, launch retros, executive updates.

  • Drive weekly/quarterly planning cadences, surfacing risks and keeping stakeholders aligned.

  • Partner with comms leads on launch execution, ensuring timelines and resources are managed.

  • Pilot and manage new AI-enabled tools and technical workflows to increase efficiency.

  • Build scalable systems that improve clarity, reduce duplication, and support long-term growth.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 6–8 years in business operations, marketing ops, or comms ops, ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • Are highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills.

  • Have built and run systems for planning, resourcing, and reporting.

  • Are fluent in advanced Excel/data analysis (dashboards, pivots, large datasets) and comfortable with lightweight coding/scripting (Python, SQL, or similar). You don’t need to ship production code, but you can prototype dashboards, automate workflows, and experiment with AI-driven tools.

  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and influencing senior leaders.

  • Bring strong communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
