About the Team
OpenAI is building advanced AI infrastructure with key strategic partners. Our infrastructure organization shapes strategy and delivers projects across multiple regions. From planning through delivery, we operate at the intersection of commercial, technical, strategy, and operations—partnering closely with teams and leaders inside and outside OpenAI.
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Infrastructure QA/QC Lead to oversee quality assurance and quality control across all phases of a large-scale, multi-site data center program. You’ll ensure that work meets or exceeds design standards, performance requirements, and reliability expectations—from early construction through commissioning and turnover.
You will develop and enforce QA/QC standards, inspection protocols, and acceptance criteria. Partnering with contractors, design teams, and commissioning agents, you’ll embed a quality-first culture to ensure every system is delivered to spec, on schedule, and built to last.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance for new employees.
In This Role, You Will
Develop and maintain the QA/QC program for data center construction, including standards, checklists, and acceptance protocols.
Review and approve contractor QA/QC plans to ensure alignment with project specifications and industry best practices.
Oversee site inspections for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical scopes.
Verify installation quality against design drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
Track and close punch-list items, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions in coordination with contractors.
Partner with commissioning teams to ensure QA/QC documentation supports system readiness for integrated testing.
Maintain program-level quality tracking and reporting for leadership.
Provide training and guidance to site teams on quality expectations, inspection processes, and documentation standards.
Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and integrating them into future project standards.
You Might Thrive in This Role If You
Have 10+ years of experience managing QA/QC for mission-critical or complex commercial developments.
Bring deep technical knowledge of construction means, methods, and quality standards across major trades.
Are skilled in interpreting design documents, specifications, and submittals to verify field compliance.
Have experience developing and implementing quality management systems at a program or portfolio scale.
Communicate effectively with executives, contractors, and site teams, translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.
Are proactive in identifying potential quality issues before they impact cost or schedule.
Thrive in fast-paced, complex environments and can drive accountability across multiple stakeholders.
