About the Team

OpenAI’s People team aims to hire, engage, and retain world-class talent who will safely build and deploy universally beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The HR team is an important subset of the People team and supports a complex, growing employee group of scientists, engineers, and business professionals. The team contains expertise across compliance, employee relations, immigration, compensation and benefits, learning and development, People programs, employee communications, and more.

About the Role

We are expanding our People Compliance team, nested within our People Operations group, and seeking a strategic and experienced leader for our global mobility and immigration programs. This role will oversee global immigration, relocation, and tax compliance initiatives, and will support our recruiting, retention, and growth strategies by developing efficient, compliant, cost-effective, and scalable policies aligned with company objectives.

Your Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and strategic implementation of comprehensive global mobility programs and policies, including complex relocations, international transfers, and assignments, to help drive business growth and enhance the overall employee experience.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to recruiters, managers, and employees, providing expert guidance on mobility policies, relocation packages, and comprehensive transition support.

  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership in finance, legal, and tax teams to ensure seamless payroll and tax compliance.

  • Develop and maintain robust vendor management practices to optimize global mobility processes and ensure effective partnerships with external vendors.

  • Spearhead the evolution of the company's global immigration strategy, collaborating with the team to execute initiatives that ensure robust compliance with all applicable regulations and laws and alignment with broader business objectives.

  • Proactively monitor and anticipate changes in global immigration policies, implementing strategic updates to company practices to mitigate risks and maintain compliance.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • 10+ years of experience in global mobility, immigration, and tax compliance, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.

  • Proven experience managing mobility, immigration programs, with a strong focus on effectively overseeing vendor relationships to ensure service quality, compliance, and excellent employee experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of global immigration laws, relocation processes, and international tax compliance.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication, consultation, and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to compliance.

Location and Workplace

This role is based either in our Mission Bay, San Francisco, CA office or remotely in the US if outside of an office location.

Our offices use a hybrid work model: three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.
