Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human

Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

About Okta & the TDI Dev Prod Engineering Team :

Technology, Data, and Insights (TDI) is on a mission to accelerate Okta's scale and growth. We bring world-class business acumen and technology expertise to every interaction. We also drive cross-functional collaboration and are focused on delivering measurable business outcomes.

The TDI DevProd Engineering team owns the foundational CI/CD platforms that power Okta’s business, spanning cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines, and AI platform integration. We are a team of builders who design and operate at scale. Currently, we are in the middle of a strategic transformation: evolving our cloud practice from a self-service model into a managed, opinionated platform that the entire business can rely on for rapid, secure, and reliable software delivery

The Opportunity :

As a Senior Software Engineer for TDI DevProd Engineering, you will serve as the technical authority for how we design, build, and evolve the cloud infrastructure underpinning our AI platform and the broader workloads running across Okta. You will define the CI/CD architectural standards, GitOps patterns, and automation strategies that the DevProd team builds toward. In this role, you will be a key partner to AI, security, and productivity architects as we scale Okta's cloud capabilities to meet increasing business demand.

This is a hands-on, high-impact builder role. We are looking for someone who has successfully shipped and scaled cloud infrastructure and brings the technical depth to make sound architectural decisions in a fast-moving environment. You will join us at a critical inflection point: Okta's AI platform is scaling rapidly, our DevProd engineering practice is transforming, and the foundational decisions made now will define the trajectory of our delivery ecosystems for years to come

What you'll be doing :

  • Architect & Build: Translate complex business and technical requirements into resilient, highly scalable, and well-architected cloud solutions leveraging AWS, Kubernetes, and modern GitOps toolsets.
  • Define CI/CD & GitOps Standards: Lead the design and implementation of next-generation deployment pipelines and orchestration frameworks using Argo CD, Argo Events, and Argo Workflows.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Act as a strategic partner to business stakeholders, product managers, and security teams to align technical roadmaps and deliver robust developer platforms.
  • Own Lifecycle Delivery: Take complete ownership of engineering deliverables from discovery and proof-of-concept (POC) to production deployment, ensuring comprehensive technical documentation in Confluence.
  • Drive Engineering Excellence: Leverage DORA and other engineering effectiveness metrics to measure, analyze, and continuously optimize platform performance, delivery speed, and reliability.
  • Estimate & Risk Mitigate: Provide detailed level-of-effort (LOE) estimates for proposed initiatives and articulate feasibility, architectural trade-offs, and risk mitigations.
  • Ensure Robust Quality: Lead by example in writing clean, modular code, and create comprehensive test suites spanning unit, integration, and functional validation.

What you'll bring to the role :

  • Experience: 6+ years of robust, hands-on experience in software development, cloud systems design, and large-scale infrastructure engineering.
  • Orchestration & GitOps: Deep expertise in container orchestration and declarative deployment tooling, specifically Argo CD, Argo Events, Argo Workflows, and Kubernetes (EKS).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven proficiency with Terraform and Helm Charts to provision and manage cloud environments programmatically.
  • Software Engineering: Strong coding proficiency in Python and/or Java with experience utilizing testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito, pytest).
  • AWS & Cloud Services: Comprehensive hands-on experience with core AWS services, including Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, Secrets Manager, RDS, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
  • Networking & Security: Practical knowledge of cloud networking configurations, including Ingress/Egress configurations, DNS, VPC routing, and secure secrets management
  • CI/CD Tooling: Experience with modern version control and artifact management registries, such as GitHub, GitLab, ECR, and JFrog Artifactory.
  • Observability: Strong familiarity with monitoring and metrics aggregation tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Splunk to track platform health and performance.
  • Professional Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a track record of producing clear, accessible technical documentation. A collaborative team-first mindset and a strong Agile background, thriving in fast-paced, iterative environments.

Extra Credit if you have experience in:

  • AI & Search Integration: Hands-on experience with modern AI/ML technologies, orchestration frameworks, vector databases, or search architectures (e.g., Kendra, Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, Gemini).
  • Platform Engineering: Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), designing developer self-service portals, establishing "golden paths," and implementing policy guardrails.
  • Service Mesh: Production experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd in high-throughput Kubernetes environments.
  • Certifications: Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKS, CKAD) or AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, Security Specialty).
