Position Description
Okta Aerial is the foundational management layer that provides centralized visibility and governance across a customer’s entire multi-org ecosystem. It serves as a single pane of glass for account-level services, enabling zero-standing privileges and seamless orchestration across Okta’s globally distributed cell architecture.
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to build the interfaces and services that define how administrators manage their Okta footprint at scale. You will be responsible for crafting intuitive, high-performance front-end experiences in React and robust backend APIs in Java. The ideal candidate is a product-oriented engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between sophisticated backend logic and a seamless user interface.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead the development of user-facing features for the Aerial Console, from the UI components down to the API and data persistence layers.
- Design and implement performant RESTful APIs and backend services in Java to support new multi-org management capabilities.
- Partner closely with UX Designers and Product Managers to translate complex administrative workflows into simple, powerful user experiences.
- Build and maintain scalable, responsive, and accessible web applications using React and modern state management libraries.
- Ensure high code quality through comprehensive unit and integration testing across the entire stack (e.g., Jest/Cypress for frontend, JUnit for backend).
- Participate in technical design sessions, ensuring that frontend requirements are reflected in backend architecture and vice versa.
- Work with senior engineering team in major development projects, design and implementation
- Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with SRE to ensure the reliability and uptime of applications
- Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- 5+ years of professional experience of full stack experience in building and maintaining production-grade web applications.
- Expert-level knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and React. Experience with modern build tools and CSS frameworks.
- Strong experience with Java (Spring/Dropwizard) and/or Golang.
- Deep understanding of RESTful API principles, JSON handling, and secure communication between frontend and backend.
- Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and JWT—specifically how they relate to session management and frontend authentication.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL).
Nice to haves:
- Experience with Cloud Infrastructure like AWS (Fargate, S3, CloudFront) and basic knowledge of Terraform.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions).
- Experience using tools like Splunk or SignalFX to debug issues across the full stack.
- A keen eye for design and experience working with design systems or component libraries.
- Understanding of how to build and deploy services across isolated infrastructure units
Education and Training:
- B.S. Computer Science or related field
- Must attend in person orientation in the Toronto office the first Tuesday of employment.
