Okta Aerial is the foundational management layer that provides centralized visibility and governance across a customer’s entire multi-org ecosystem. It serves as a single pane of glass for account-level services, enabling zero-standing privileges and seamless orchestration across Okta’s globally distributed cell architecture.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Aerial team to build and scale the "Account Layer" of Okta. You will own the development of critical backend services and the underlying cloud infrastructure that supports cross-org functionality. The ideal candidate is a product-minded engineer who is equally comfortable writing high-performance code in Java or Go as they are automating and deploying scalable infrastructure in AWS.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end development of features within the Aerial ecosystem, focusing on the multi-org "Account Layer" and cross-cell visibility.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Conduct thorough code reviews for peers to ensure high standards of security and performance.
  • Contribute to technical designs and proposals for Aerial services, ensuring they align with established architectural patterns for multi-tenant systems.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle—from initial scoping and technical design to deployment, monitoring, and handling customer-reported issues.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed services.
  • Understand our universal directory codebase and development process: Jira, Technical Designs, Code Review, Testing, and Deployment
  • Work with senior engineering team in major development projects, design and implementation
  • Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with SRE to ensure the reliability and uptime of Aerial-specific infrastructure
  • Interface with cross-functional teams (Architects, QA, Product, Technical Support, Documentation, and UX teams) to develop connectors to on-prem and cloud apps
  • Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • 5+ years of experience with Java (Spring/Dropwizard) and/or Golang, with a deep understanding of multi-threading and asynchronous processing.
  • Understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and JWT tokens, specifically for service-to-service communication.
  • Experience building high-performance RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services.
  • Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and caching layers (Redis) at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (Fargate, EC2, Lambda) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform). You should be comfortable managing your own cloud resources.
  • Strong proficiency with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD automation tools (Jenkins, ArgoCD, or GitHub Actions).

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with Splunk, SignalFX, or Datadog for monitoring and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Familiarity with Kafka or SQS for handling cross-org asynchronous events.
  • Basic familiarity with React/JavaScript to help integrate backend services.
  • Understanding of how to build and deploy services across isolated infrastructure units

Education and Training:

  • B.S. Computer Science or related field
