We seek an experienced Staff Software Engineer in Test to join our SOAR (Secure Onboarding Access Recovery) group in the Access Management (AM) pillar. This team is passionate about delivering large-scale, mission-critical software in a fast-paced Agile environment. In this role, you'll be working with a team of highly skilled and talented engineers responsible for delivering sophisticated backend solutions that help Okta reliably operate on a large scale and be highly available. As part of the team, you’ll ensure projects are completed with the highest quality and reliability using automation at every level for fast, robust, secure releases.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review requirements, define test strategies, and ensure seamless, high-quality releases.
- Partner with engineering management to plan, prioritise, and deliver high-impact projects with zero-debt quality cadence.
- Design, implement, and maintain Automated API tests, end-to-end tests, reliability/scale tests
- Automate all critical features to maintain zero-debt cadence
- Leverage Generative AI tools and frameworks to enhance productivity, accelerate test development, and improve overall engineering efficiency.
- Conduct code reviews, identify defects, and build tools to strengthen test coverage and product stability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to effectively address production and customer issues.
- Champion a quality-first culture and act as a strong advocate for customer experience and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in software engineering (or related)
- 10+ years of QE/SDET experience, preferably in an enterprise SaaS company or any product-based company
- 10+ years of Strong programming experience with Java or Python;
- Familiarity with automation tools like Selenium, TestCafe, API (Rest Assured, Karate, etc.), Postman, Jmeter, Splunk, and AWS toolset.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services Stack (Elastic Cloud Compute instances, Security Groups; Lambda) is a plus
- Expertise in test planning, strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
- Able to write and review designs and code with other team members
- Able to deliver well-designed, high-quality code on time
- Some knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, Federation, SSO, etc.
- Enthusiastic learner and ability to context switch between development platforms
Nice to have:
- Experience with shell scripts (bash), a strong plus
- Experience using, maintaining, and deploying/testing Linux-based systems. Experience with Terraform, Docker is a plus.
- Good understanding of Networking, Firewalls, DNS.
- Some experience working with proxy or other web servers, preferably with nginx
