    Role: Engineering Manager

You GET developers! You understand their workflows, their pain points, and what makes a library delightful to use.

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for our developer tools, SDKs and Quickstarts. You will combine your technical background with a passion for people management to drive our Developer Experience (DX) strategy forward. Working cross-functionally, you will be the steward of our ecosystem, ensuring our technology is intuitive, accessible, and high-quality. The key qualifications for this role are software engineering expertise, empathy, and the ability to foster a self-directed team.

    What you will be doing:

    • Lead and Grow: Manage and mentor a high-performing team of engineers responsible for the Auth0 CLI, Terraform Provider, and SDKs.
    • Technical Direction: collaborative with engineers on architectural decisions, RFCs, and code reviews to ensure our tools are robust, idiomatic, and secure.
    • Open Source Stewardship: Define and enforce high standards for our open source repositories, ensuring rigorous code quality, automated release pipelines, and responsive issue triage.
    • People Development: Grow engineers’ technical skills and impact through regular 1:1s, coaching, actionable feedback, and career advocacy.
    • Roadmap Execution: Partner with Product Management to balance new features for our developer tools with critical maintenance and technical debt.
    • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with Core Engineering and Security teams to ensure our libraries seamlessly support the latest platform capabilities.
    • Champion Quality: Act as the steward for Developer Experience (DX), ensuring our tools and documentation set the industry standard for ease of use.
    • Operational Excellence: Establish systems to ensure high availability and predictability of deliverables across multiple package managers and registries.
    • Hiring: Lead the recruitment of engineers who combine strong backend expertise (Go, Node.js) with genuine developer empathy.
    • Culture: Cultivate a team environment of psychological safety, technical curiosity, and connection to the broader developer community.

You are a good fit if you:

    • Engineering Leadership: Demonstrated success as an Engineering Manager fostering healthy, collaborative, and high-performing teams.
    • Technical Expertise: Strong technical background with hands-on expertise in Go and Node.js.
    • Infrastructure as Code: Deep experience with Terraform, specifically regarding Provider design, resource lifecycle management, and best practices.
    • Domain Experience: Experience designing and building developer-facing products like SDKs, libraries, Terraform providers, or CLIs (including a strong understanding of versioning strategies).
    • Open Source Fluency: Active participation in the Open Source community, with a clear understanding of maintainership, semantic versioning, and community engagement.
    • Coaching: A track record of growing engineers' skills and careers through coaching, actionable feedback, and performance management.
    • Distributed Work: Experience leading teams in a geographically distributed, asynchronous environment.
    • Operational Rigor: Proficiency with CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions), release automation, and software testing best practices.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; you can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both engineers and product stakeholders.
    • Navigating Ambiguity: You thrive with a high level of self-direction and can drive value even when requirements are not fully defined.

    Bonus points for:

We do not expect you to be an expert in everything below, only that you can learn the less familiar fast:

    • Identity Knowledge: Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols (e.g., OAuth2, OIDC, SAML).
    • Cross-Stack Proficiency: Deep experience in both Go and Node.js ecosystems (versus just one).
    • Public Presence: A history of technical writing, blogging, or speaking at conferences to advocate for developer tools.
    • Terraform Expertise: Specific experience building custom Terraform Providers.
    • Community Leadership: Experience managing or moderating large developer communities or forums.
