At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.

Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.

Okta’s Workforce Identity Cloud Security Engineering (WISE) group is looking for an experienced and passionate Manager to lead our Bangalore-based engineering team focused on securing and protecting all of our products & infrastructure. We embrace innovation and pave the way to transform bright ideas into world-class security solutions for large-scale, mission-critical, cloud-based software. The WISE group has a niche skill-set that combines security domain expertise with the ability to design, implement, deploy, and operate security capabilities within our software products and cloud infrastructure without adding friction to product functionality or performance.

This is a high-impact role in a security-centric, fast-paced organization that is poised for massive growth and success. You will act as a liaison between the Security org and the Engineering org to build technical leverage and influence the security roadmap and direction. You will deliver automated security and compliance capabilities for all of Okta’s Workforce Identity products. You will be empowered to propose stimulating new projects for our roadmap and rewarded with projects using emerging technologies. Join us and be part of a company that is changing the cloud computing landscape forever.

Bring all the passion and dedication along and there’s no telling what you could accomplish!

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a track record of leading or managing high-performance software development and/or site reliability engineering (aka DevOps) teams whilst still being technically involved
  • Has both development and production operations experience with either SaaS or cloud-based infrastructure services - particularly with AWS infrastructure, however GCP or Azure experience is also welcome (although not required)
  • Is passionate about automation and leveraging agile software development and DevOps methodologies to deliver world-class security and compliance at scale
  • Has experience working in a hands-on, small-to-medium sized company environment building great engineering teams from the ground up
  • Has experience working with global teams, particularly those with significant time zone differences, and understands how to collaborate effectively in those situations

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and manage a growing team of experienced and motivated software and site reliability engineers, following an agile development and operations methodology, and focused on driving continuous improvement in Okta’s security maturity

    • Collaborate with TPM, architects, and executive management to align on vision, strategy, requirements, and desired security and risk mitigation outcomes
    • Perform detailed resource planning to ensure the team is set up for success - has the right resources identified and assigned to deliver the required outcomes on time and on budget
    • Partner with the rest of the Workforce Identify Cloud Engineering organization to ensure that any dependencies are identified, are committed, and are delivered in a timely manner
    • Partner with Okta Security and other cross-org teams to align on requirements and verify results
    • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews as needed to support execution and delivery
    • Ensure the team’s site reliability engineers collaborate well with the rest of the technical operations organization to deploy and support solutions in a scalable and sustainable manner
  • Take a hands-on approach and focus mostly on delivery & task execution, delegating when it makes sense, and regularly assessing risks associated with the team's deliverables
  • Facilitate effective communication within the teams and stakeholders building transparency and alignment.
  • Establish and maintain a strong rapport with the team, cultivating an inclusive and transparent environment, seeking feedback regularly and ensuring that the team is happy and productive
  • Provide business context to the team to imbue a sense of urgency, focus priorities, and ensure the team knows how their work is contributing to overall company goals
  • Build strong ties with other managers, especially those matrixed into the team such as QA, Product Management, and Program Management
  • Promote and apply best practices for designing and building scalable and reliable services across engineering
  • Respond to issues and escalations and participate in management on-call rotations as needed
  • Partner with recruiting to hire staff as needed in Bangalore and other sites
