Position: Greenhouse Technician

Location: Watsonville, CA

Type: Full Time

Start Date: ASAP

Below is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience, education, skillset, and other relevant qualifications. This range is for the Bay Area, California location and may be adjusted to the labor market in other geographic areas.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $23/hr - $26/hr

The Opportunity:

Ohalo is seeking passionate candidates for hands-on work growing plants to join our greenhouse team. As a Greenhouse Technician, you will produce beautiful, healthy plants to support a team of scientists revolutionizing plant breeding. Responsibilities include planting, transplanting, watering, scouting for pests and diseases, weeding, data collection, seed harvesting and processing, and performing controlled pollinations. The ideal candidate will be safety-aware, efficient, reliable, and responsible. While previous greenhouse or field experience is beneficial, it is not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care and maintenance for multiple plant species.
  • Interact and collaborate with scientists to accurately collect and record data using an electronic notebook, actively participate in trials, and discuss results and observations.
  • Incorporate Integrated Pest Management strategies, such as the release of beneficial insects.
  • Apply pesticides, maintain application records, and report as necessary.
  • Prepare media for planting, and plant or transplant seedlings, cuttings, and other propagules.
  • Monitor and adjust irrigation, nutrients, lighting, and climate to optimize plant health.
  • Harvest, process, record, and organize seeds.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensure the security of company information, including trade secrets.

Candidate Profile:

  • Basic knowledge of plant science, horticulture, plant materials, propagation, and pest management.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse and creative teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to routine tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work weekends.
  • Valid California driver’s license with the potential to be covered by the company's vehicle insurance plan.
