Introduction
At Optimizely, we are building Opal, our AI platform that powers how teams create, experiment, and operate digital experiences. Behind every AI-powered feature is a set of systems that need to be configurable, observable, and trustworthy. This role focuses on designing those systems.
We are looking for a Product Designer II to help shape the internal tools and infrastructure interfaces that power Opal. You will design experiences used by engineers, product teams, and internal operators to configure agents, define workflows, evaluate outputs, and monitor system performance.
This is not a surface-level UI role. You will work close to the technical layer, helping turn concepts like prompts, models, latency, cost, and evaluation into interfaces that are clear, usable, and scalable.
The Role
You will partner directly with AI engineers, Product Managers, and senior designers to design the core interfaces that define how Opal works under the hood. This includes agent configuration, workflow orchestration, evaluation tooling, and observability surfaces.
You will help define the primitives of the system such as agents, workflows, artifacts, evaluations, and environments, and ensure they form a coherent mental model across the platform.
You will spend time in the details of complex systems, while also stepping back to ensure the overall structure remains understandable and consistent.
Job Responsibilities
• Design configuration interfaces for agents and workflows, including setup, editing, and versioning
• Design evaluation and experimentation surfaces that help teams understand system performance and output quality
• Design monitoring and observability tools that expose latency, cost, errors, and usage patterns
• Translate technical concepts such as models, prompts, pipelines, and metrics into clear UI and language
• Create flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma
• Work closely with engineers to prototype ideas quickly and refine them through real usage
• Help define system primitives and ensure they are consistently applied across the platform
• Contribute to design patterns for configuration, observability, safety, and control
• Participate in usability sessions with internal users and iterate based on feedback
Knowledge and Experience
• 2 to 4 years of experience designing digital products, developer tools, or internal platforms
• A portfolio that shows strong systems thinking and the ability to simplify complex workflows
• Experience designing dashboards, configuration tools, or data-heavy interfaces
• Comfort working with technical concepts and collaborating closely with engineers
• Ability to think in terms of systems, not just screens
• Proficiency with Figma and component-based design
• Clear communication and the ability to explain decisions to technical partners
• Familiarity with AI or ML concepts, experimentation platforms, or observability tooling
Why You Will Love Working Here
• Work on the systems that power AI, not just the outputs
• Partner closely with engineers and shape how AI infrastructure is built and used
• Define interaction patterns for a new category of tooling
• Be part of a team that values clarity, speed, and thoughtful design
• Flexible work setup with NYC or remote options across the U.S.
