Job Overview
While Mainspring is growing rapidly to scale up production rate, quality is a crucial element to the success of our mission. The Manufacturing Quality Team is responsible for improving and ensuring product quality. You will refine and execute improvements to our conformance system of the manufacturing processes by collaborating with the Manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering as well as other members of the enterprise. You will work to develop and execute conformance acceptance plans by utilizing the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, and other quality system principles. You are highly organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and will thrive in a nimble, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality Inspection Team and support their growth in terms of skillset and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Manufacturing Operations, Supplier Quality Engineering, Contract Manufacturers and Design Engineering.
  • Prioritize inspections and allocate resources to satisfy both internal and external stakeholders demands.
  • Assess process capability performing Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) and Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) inspections to reduce resource allocation, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead Built In Quality (BIQ).
  • Generate improvement ideas on dimensional inspection methods beyond CMM.
  • Provide Design For Manufacturability/ Inspectability (DFx) feedback using data collected through inspections.
  • Establish and maintain measurement tools calibration and certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of inspection experience in a fast paced and high growth environment (industrial and/or automotive a plus)
  • 3+ years of people leader experience
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes like CNC, casting and metal fabrication
  • The position will require up to 10% travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers

Must Haves

  • You have effectively used geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ANSI Y14.5 to interpret manufacturing drawings and tolerance requirements to define the most effective measurement methods and tools.
  • You have programmed advanced measurement equipment like CMM (knowledge of Zeiss Calipso is a plus).
  • You can thrive in structured and unstructured environments and are not dissuaded at the prospect of making hard decisions about what is important and urgent against a backdrop of limited resources.
  • A good understanding on how to establish and improve a conformance system
  • Experience in digital tools for data collection, analysis, and dashboarding

Like to have

  • You have actively participated in a manufacturing scale-up and know what it takes to transition from prototype, or pre-production to volume production.
  • You have used IPC 610 best practices to inspect electrical and electronic products.
  • You have used collaboration tools like Jira, Basecamp, Asana or Trello and relational databases like Airtable or Quickbase to achieve results with X-functional teams.
  • You have dealt with the limited observability of special processes (welding, coating, metal surface finishing, heat treatment, and etc) and familiar with Destructive and Non-Destructive Testing to inspect results
