Role Description: We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Portfolio Manager who will be responsible for managing commercial client relationships while assessing creditworthiness and evaluating new commercial loan applications. This hybrid role combines loan origination duties with portfolio management, ensuring a balanced approach to risk and opportunity. The individual will analyze financial data, monitor loan performance, and provide strategic insights to optimize the lending portfolio. Additionally, they will collaborate with Loan Officers and clients to tailor financing solutions that meet the clients’ needs while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, credit and market risk, and client relationship management within a banking environment.

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with Loan Officers and Credit Underwriting to produce quality credit applications/annual reviews for use by various Approval Authorities (Internal and External).
  • Obtain necessary underwriting information to evaluate various types of credit requests.
  • Analyze the credit history of applicants and determine their loan repayment capability.
  • Negotiate credit terms such as costs, loan repayment methods, loan structures, covenants and collateral specifications in accordance with Lead Bank lending policy and procedures
  • Implement and maintain interest rate structures and fees to be consistent with the credit. risk associated with the underlying lending relationships.
  • Review new laws and regulations that influence lending within the financial institution.
  • Develop new customer prospects and business for Lead Bank.
  • Serve and develop current customer relationships through a combination of personal interaction, site visits, ongoing contact and use of digital tools to meet customers’ needs.
  • Develop and implement portfolio strategies aligned with client objectives, the Bank’s lending policies and strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitor economic trends, credit markets, interest rate developments, and geopolitical events to guide asset concentration and risk management strategies.
  • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and performance reporting for senior management and the Bank’s Loan Committee.
  • Analyze and review customer needs and build a complete financial relationship beyond basic loan requests to include Lead Bank relationship partners. Relationship development and referral to include deposit and transactional services, digital access and informational technologies and business knowledge services.
  • Utilize written, digital and oral communication skills and resources to relay and acquire information to and from customers and, when applicable, third parties.
  • Monitor financial and legal documentation exception tracking and collect outstanding documentation from customers and third parties, as applicable, in a timely manner.
  • Perform site/collateral inspections.
  • Review Loan documentation.
  • Develop and maintain a positive professional image for Lead Bank.
  • Mentor junior portfolio managers and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide support for Bank sponsored events to promote all bank services.
  • Seek out and develop opportunities to provide collaborative service for Clients across departments and functions.
  • Assist with Underwriting Loan Requests when needed.
  • Understand and follow applicable laws and regulations for job responsibilities including but not limited to: Lead Bank Loan Policy, Conduct Policy, Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security, and Suspicious Activity reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of portfolio management, lending, and/or credit analysis experience.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency with portfolio analytics tools and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong judgment, instincts and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in managing multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Humility, low ego and a desire to give and receive feedback.
  • Self starter, engaged, proactive and ready to roll up your sleeves.
