About 1X
We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team:
The Compliance Engineering team enables 1X products to achieve global regulatory approvals and safely operate in real-world environments. We support engineering teams through internal validation, pre-compliance testing, certification planning, and regulatory approvals across robotic systems, electronics, wireless technologies, and electromechanical products.
Working closely with Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Systems Integration, Product Safety, and external certification partners, we identify compliance risks early and help ensure products reach market efficiently and successfully.
Your Charter: As a Compliance Associate Test Engineer – EMC/EMI, you will be responsible for executing electromagnetic compatibility testing activities across 1X products throughout development and certification. You will own internal EMC pre-compliance testing, laboratory operations, certification logistics, test reporting, and coordination with external compliance laboratories.
You will support EMC troubleshooting efforts by identifying failure modes, collecting diagnostic data, isolating potential interference sources, and documenting findings. You will work closely with Electrical Engineering and the Staff EMC/EMI Lead Engineer to drive issues toward resolution.
This role focuses on test execution, laboratory operations, certification readiness, and technical troubleshooting support. Ownership of EMC design requirements, mitigation strategies, architecture decisions, and hardware design recommendations remains with Electrical Engineering and the Staff EMC/EMI Lead Engineer.
This role reports through the Quality organization and works closely with the Staff EMC/EMI Lead Engineer, who provides technical leadership for EMC strategy, certification risk management, and design-for-compliance activities.
Key Outcomes:
Execute internal EMC pre-compliance testing campaigns that identify emissions and immunity issues before formal certification testing.
Maintain operational readiness of EMC laboratory equipment, fixtures, calibration records, and test infrastructure.
Support rapid investigation of EMC failures through structured troubleshooting, data collection, and issue isolation.
Coordinate successful external certification activities, including test planning, scheduling, sample preparation, logistics, documentation, and issue tracking.
Generate accurate test reports, compliance records, and regulatory documentation to support global product certifications.
Improve internal EMC testing capabilities, procedures, and workflows to reduce certification risk and accelerate product development.
Job requirements
Key Competencies:
Hands-on experience with EMC and electronic test equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, LISNs, current probes, near-field probes, antennas, and signal generators.
Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to systematically investigate emissions and immunity failures.
Excellent laboratory discipline with attention to detail in test execution, documentation, and repeatability.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple testing activities, certification schedules, and compliance deliverables simultaneously.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams and external certification partners.
-
Ability to interpret EMC test results and communicate technical findings in a clear and actionable manner.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
1–4 years of experience supporting EMC/EMI testing, electrical validation, certification testing, product compliance, or related laboratory environments.
Experience operating common electronic test equipment and collecting technical test data.
Familiarity with EMC fundamentals including conducted emissions, radiated emissions, immunity testing, grounding, shielding, and filtering concepts.
Ability to work hands-on with prototype hardware in a laboratory environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience supporting FCC Part 15, CE Marking, UKCA, CISPR, IEC 61000, RED, or similar regulatory compliance programs.
Experience coordinating certification efforts with external laboratories such as TÜV, UL, Intertek, SGS, or Nemko.
Experience working with accredited compliance laboratories and reviewing certification test reports.
Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, calibration systems, and compliance documentation.
Familiarity with robotics, consumer electronics, industrial automation, automotive electronics, or battery-powered products.
Experience supporting root-cause investigations and failure analysis activities.
Familiarity with wireless, product safety, environmental, or reliability testing programs.
Experience testing motor-driven systems, power electronics, battery-powered products, or robotic systems.
Familiarity with switching regulators, servo drives, BLDC motor controllers, and wireless communication systems.
