About 1X

We’re an AI and robotics company based in San Carlos and Hayward, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing work autonomously.

We’re looking for curious, driven, and practical people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we’d love to hear from you.

Role Overview
As a Senior EHS Specialist on the Facilities team, you will help maintain and improve Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across our Bay Area operations, with primary support for one site and additional support for other facilities as needed. You will partner closely with Facilities, Operations, and cross-functional teams to help keep our manufacturing, R&D, and workplace environments safe, compliant, and well-run. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the work, solving problems on the ground, and helping teams operate safely as the company grows.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day EH&S operations for a primary Bay Area site and provide additional support to other local facilities as needed.

  • Implement, maintain, and improve EH&S programs, policies, and procedures in partnership with Facilities and Operations.

  • Conduct routine risk assessments, inspections, and audits; identify hazards and help drive corrective and preventive actions.

  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up remediation.

  • Help maintain OSHA logs, incident records, training records, and other required compliance documentation.

  • Support hazardous material handling, storage, labeling, and disposal programs in coordination with site teams and vendors.

  • Assist with emergency preparedness and response planning, drills, PPE programs, and employee safety training.

  • Track EH&S metrics and help prepare regular reporting for internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to promote safe work practices in manufacturing, R&D, and workplace operations.

  • Support site inspections, compliance reviews, and information requests from external parties in coordination with senior stakeholders.

  • Help improve safety culture through visible, hands-on engagement with employees and managers.

  • Provide occasional after-hours or weekend support when needed for incidents, site issues, or urgent operational needs

Job requirements

Must Have:

  • 4–7 years of EH&S experience in manufacturing, industrial, hardware, laboratory, or other fast-paced operational environments.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable California and local EH&S requirements.

  • Experience conducting inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.

  • Experience supporting EH&S programs in active operational environments such as manufacturing, R&D, warehousing, or facilities.

  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling, emergency response procedures, PPE programs, and safety training.

  • Strong communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach to solving safety challenges.

  • Ability to work on-site in San Carlos and Hayward.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in robotics, hardware, advanced manufacturing, or other high-growth technical environments.

  • Experience supporting facility changes, expansions, or new process introductions.

  • CSP or CIH certification.

  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification.

  • Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Public Health, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary Range: $105,000 – $145,000 + Equity

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Paid time off and holidays
