Position Summary
Karius is looking for a dedicated Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to advance the understanding and adoption of our innovative diagnostic solutions. As an MSL, you will act as a scientific expert, fostering strong relationships with healthcare professionals to drive appropriate utilization and adoption of Karius tests. Your efforts will directly contribute to revenue growth, strategic expansion within key accounts, and enhanced profitability.

Reports to: Director, Medical Science Liaison
Territory: Greater New York City - with deep knowledge and experience in the greater metropolitan area health systems.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Subject Matter Expertise
• Master and effectively communicate the clinical evidence and applications of Karius’ technology.
• Lead education and training sessions, utilizing peer-reviewed publications, clinical case studies, and approved marketing materials.
• Present formally and informally at healthcare institutions through Grand • Rounds, ASP meetings, and roundtable discussions.
2. Account Management & Sales Support
• Work with the Clinical Sales Manager (CSM) to drive new and existing account growth and achieve overall territory sales goals.
• Partner with Clinical Sales Managers to target healthcare institutions and clinicians, enhancing engagement.
• Participate in sales strategy and account management to drive towards center of excellence institutional Karius users.
• Support the clinical closing process by addressing technical and scientific inquiries.
• Proactively engage clinician departments to expand test usage and expand the use of Karius testing within new diagnostic applications.
• Identify and collaborate with centers of excellence to model best practices for Karius test utilization.
3. Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Development
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with KOLs in relevant fields to promote test adoption.
• Update KOLs and clinician champions regularly on clinical data, operational protocols, and new applications.
• Collaborate on protocol development for diagnostic stewardship.
4. Education & Training
• Deliver education to clinician groups, aiming to optimize and broaden test utilization.
• Engage with Antimicrobial and Diagnostic Stewardship programs, conducting utilization reviews for quality monitoring.
• Lead in-depth educational sessions on clinical updates and advancements in Karius’ technology.
5. Networking & Prospecting
• Network to identify new presentation opportunities and engage potential clinician champions.
• Follow up on specific data requests and provide utilization reviews as needed.
• Prospect for interest within key clinical groups to build relationships that support test adoption.
• Lead and network at national conferences and tradeshows to build relationships, share insights, and strengthen Karius’ presence within the medical community.

Travel (Local and Regional): Up to 70%
Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, with vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in the field, which requires the ability to extensively travel.
Position Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, or licensed Pharmacist required.
• Clinical advanced degree preferred (e.g., Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, • Clinical Infectious Disease Pharmacist, or an Advanced Public Health Degree with experience in hospital-based clinical process implementation and improvement).
• Measurable experience as a clinician or nurse is required.
• Familiarity with infectious disease diagnosis, treatment, and/or microbiology/virology methods is required.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Suite, including contact management databases like Salesforce.
• Knowledge of medical institution hierarchy.
• Sales experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with laboratory workflow and fiscal operations is a plus.
• Knowledge of cfDNA technology is a plus.

• Has an entrepreneurial spirit and is comfortable multitasking and working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, growth-oriented environment.
• Strong presentation acumen, with the ability to manage and facilitate engaging discussions with both small and large groups.
• Ability to present technical information to audiences with various degrees of scientific and clinical expertise.
• Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, confidentiality, and ability to build trusting and professional relationships.
• Demonstrates strong collaboration skills by actively engaging with other sales members, fostering open communication and problem-solving to achieve shared goals.
• Passionate about the mission and reputation of Karius while investing in the culture as the company grows.
