We're transforming the grocery industry

At Instacart, we invite the world to share love through food because we believe everyone should have access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together. Where others see a simple need for grocery delivery, we see exciting complexity and endless opportunity to serve the varied needs of our community. We work to deliver an essential service that customers rely on to get their groceries and household goods, while also offering safe and flexible earnings opportunities to Instacart Personal Shoppers.

Instacart has become a lifeline for millions of people, and we’re building the team to help push our shopping cart forward. If you’re ready to do the best work of your life, come join our table.

Instacart is a Flex First team

There’s no one-size fits all approach to how we do our best work. Our employees have the flexibility to choose where they do their best work—whether it’s from home, an office, or your favorite coffee shop—while staying connected and building community through regular in-person events. Overview

Instacart’s Design Team is dedicated to making grocery shopping effortless for everyone by solving complex, large-scale problems across our four-sided marketplace—Consumers, Shoppers, Retailers, and Advertisers. Within the Design org, the Growth Design Team, with leadership based in New York City, focuses on shaping how people discover, understand, and build lasting relationships with Instacart. We design the end-to-end journeys that help customers recognize the value of membership—not just as a transactional benefit, but as a trusted part of their everyday lives.

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join the Lifecycle & Growth team and lead experience design across Instacart’s subscription and growth ecosystem. You’ll shape how people first encounter, evaluate, commit to, and renew their relationship with Instacart—bringing strategic product thinking together with emotionally resonant, brand-forward design. This is a high-impact, highly collaborative role partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Brand, Data Science, and Research to drive measurable business outcomes while strengthening customer trust and long-term loyalty.

If you thrive in ambiguity, care deeply about the customer journey, and are energized by defining what meaningful growth looks like at scale, you’ll find a team that values experimentation, accountability, systems thinking, and craft—balancing performance with purpose.

This role is remote-friendly within the United States; preference for candidates able to collaborate across Eastern Time working hours.

About the Job

  • Own and articulate a compelling long-term design vision for Instacart’s growth journey—defining how customers move from curiosity to commitment and building trust at every stage.
  • Lead end-to-end design across subscription and monetization experiences, shaping key moments from early education through conversion, engagement, and renewal.
  • Bring a journey-based, systems mindset to how growth moments scale across web, iOS, Android, and lifecycle surfaces—ensuring each touchpoint feels cohesive, intentional, and emotionally clear.
  • Shape product narratives and define strategic frameworks that clearly communicate the value of membership, aligning cross-functional partners around shared goals, success metrics, and a unified story.
  • Identify growth opportunities across the funnel and translate complex customer, business, and technical needs into scalable experience strategies that unlock both performance and meaning.
  • Champion emotionally resonant, trust-building design that balances clarity, confidence, and craft—elevating how we communicate value without compromising simplicity.
  • Raise the bar for cohesion and quality across the growth surface through principled design decisions, strong storytelling, and hands-on execution that sets a standard for others.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Instacart’s design systems with a growth lens—enabling teams to test, learn, and scale while preserving a unified, brand-forward experience.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products across web and mobile, with a strong portfolio demonstrating high-impact growth work and measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in growth-focused design, including subscription journeys, monetization models, and end-to-end conversion funnels—paired with a strong instinct for how value is perceived and communicated.
  • Proven success leading 0→1 initiatives and evolving mature products, balancing long-term narrative vision with iterative delivery in fast-moving environments.
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, delivering production-quality experiences that are both high-performing and emotionally intuitive.
  • Strategic systems thinker who designs for scale—integrating individual business needs into cohesive, reusable patterns without losing the human story behind the experience.
  • Experience aligning cross-functional teams around a shared growth narrative, connecting design decisions to measurable business impact and customer trust.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity, creating structure from loosely defined problems, and guiding teams toward clarity and alignment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate design rationale, tradeoffs, and strategy in executive and cross-functional settings with clarity and conviction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, or subscription businesses with a focus on acquisition, activation, retention, renewal, and long-term customer value.
  • Hands-on experience collaborating with Product, Marketing, Brand, Engineering, and Data Science to shape experimentation frameworks and scalable growth strategies.
  • Background in brand-forward, narrative-led design that builds trust and clearly communicates value within growth funnels.
  • Experience evolving large-scale design systems to support both cohesion and experimentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes across multi-team initiatives without direct authority.
  • Comfort collaborating with distributed teams and operating across time zones.
