Overview
Instacart’s Core Shopping Experience org powers the main customer-facing app & site experience and the systems behind it. We obsess over every step of the journey from choosing a retailer to checkout—crafting intuitive UX, fast and reliable services, and data-driven features that help millions of customers shop with confidence.
We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Single Retailer Experience team focused on Surfaces, Items & Health—the crucial part of shopping that spans selecting a retailer through building a cart. This team is delivering high-visibility features like Nutrition Scores, enriched Product Description Pages with digestible health data, allergen and dietary safety indicators, and healthier alternatives. You’ll partner closely with PM, Design, Data Science, and adjacent engineering teams to ship thoughtful, high-quality consumer features and platform capabilities that scale.
This role is remote across the United States and Canada, with a slight preference for candidates near our team hubs in San Francisco, Toronto, or New York City.

- Own multi-quarter roadmaps for the Single Retailer Experience, delivering measurable product impact, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Partner with adjacent Shopping Experience teams to design platform capabilities and APIs that enable rapid experimentation, long-term maintainability, and adoption across stakeholders.
- Engage deeply in technical execution—review designs and code, guide architectural decisions, define SLOs, establish observability standards, and oversee on-call and incident response.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data Science to prioritize impact, land cross-org initiatives, and deliver consumer features such as Nutrition Scores, allergen indicators, and healthier alternatives.
- Prioritize and manage inbound requests across a horizontal surface area; create clarity, sequence complex programs, and deliver outcomes in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
