Overview

Instacart’s Enterprise organization builds the Retailer Platform that powers our partners’ businesses—from merchandising and promotions to fulfillment and insights. We’re looking for a Product Design Manager to lead and grow a high-impact team shaping the tools and experiences that help retailers operate and thrive on Instacart. In this role you'll focus on ways to grow our existing retailers and enable new ones by delivering intuitive self-serve experiences that empower retailers to scale their business while enhancing how consumers engage with their favorite grocery brands. If you're passionate about working with a diverse set of business partners to design scalable, brand-centric solutions that fuel retailer success, this role is for you.

As a leader of our Retailer Platform you’ll manage and grow a team of designers to produce high-quality and impactful work. Together, you’ll focus across two major domains: empowering retailers with scalable whitelabel merchandising and marketing tooling, and crafting intuitive, consumer-facing experiences that connect shoppers with their favorite grocery brands. You’ll set the vision for design standards, systems, and strategic thinking across this portfolio and collaborate cross-functionally to amplify Instacart’s impact in one of our most important growth areas.

This is a fast-paced, collaborative role where driving alignment, scaling design, and inspiring the team will be core to your success. You will have the opportunity to influence the future of grocery e-commerce and enable businesses of all sizes to thrive through thoughtful, scalable design. Success in this role means driving a holistic strategy across your portfolio, fostering excellence in design execution, and delivering outcomes that help retailers succeed while delighting consumers.

About the Job

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5 product designers, providing clear goals, actionable feedback, and growth opportunities while fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
  • Engage directly with retailers and internal stakeholders through workshops, usability studies, and beta testing. Ensure your team’s work helps bring each retailer’s unique brand to life on their digital storefronts while delivering cohesive, delightful consumer-facing experiences.
  • Own the design strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for retailer platform initiatives; partnering with your product, engineering, and research partners to translate customer insights and business needs into scalable solutions tied to clear OKRs.
  • Guide end-to-end design across discovery and delivery (workflows, IA, wireframes, prototypes, and specs), ensuring a high bar for craft, usability, and accessibility in enterprise contexts.
  • Lead design rituals and quality gates (critiques, reviews, design ops practices) that raise quality while maintaining velocity; measure and iterate based on product and customer outcomes.

About You

  • 6+ years of experience in product/UX design, delivering end-to-end digital products.
  • 2+ years of experience managing product designers, including performance management, coaching, and hiring.

  • Demonstrated track record of scaling systems across multiple brands, creating cohesive yet flexible solutions that meet diverse retailer needs.
  • Deep knowledge of UX strategy, user research, and analytics with a human-centered design approach.
  • Thrives in fast-paced settings with a diverse set of cross-functional business partners, using a collaborative, problem-solving mindset
  • Strong communicator, skilled at unifying teams and defending design decisions across distributed teams and time zones.
