About the Role

In this pivotal role within our Shop org, you'll drive the technological backbone of Instacart's Online Grocery Pillar. You'll work closely with senior engineering leadership to establish technical vision and execution strategies across multiple teams driving dozens of initiatives. By collaborating with our machine learning, product, and design teams, you'll innovate and streamline our systems, ensuring a seamless grocery shopping experience for our customers.

You'll join the dynamic Shop team, a critical component of Instacart's success. Our team focuses on enhancing the customer journey by building the robust, interconnected systems that power our online grocery platform from when you open the app through placing the order. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are dedicated to advancing the e-commerce grocery experience.

About the Job

  • Conduct engineering reviews to ensure high standards across all projects.
  • Identify unifying patterns and systems, improving architectural coherence and efficiency.
  • Design and implement service-oriented architecture solutions.
  • Engage in hands-on coding to develop core features and services.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align on product vision and deliver impactful solutions.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a senior engineering role with a focus on architecture and system design.
  • Strong proficiency in coding and ability to engage in complex problem-solving.
  • Experience designing and working on systems utilized by more than 50 engineers.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Ability to lead engineering reviews and provide guidance to team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working alongside machine learning, product, and design teams.
  • Previous experience in building scalable, reliable systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • A deep understanding of the online grocery or e-commerce sector.

Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here. Currently, we are only hiring in the following provinces: Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
