Inflammatix Portugal is seeking a highly motivated Scientist Level II to contribute to assay development activities supporting microfluidic test system development. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our research and development projects, particularly in the areas of ultra-rapid sample preparation, isothermal amplification protocols, and microfluidic device development. This role is laboratory-based and requires exceptional attention to detail. This role will involve development of novel sample preparation methods and Design of Experiments-based (DOE-based) optimization of existing chemistries. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve project goals and drive innovation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and optimize molec ular assays, including but not limited to various PCR techniques (e.g., qPCR, RT-qPCR), isothermal amplification (qLAMP, RT-qLAMP), and nucleic acid isolation and manipulation.
  • Design primers for use in molecular assays and ensure their specificity and efficiency.
  • Conduct experiments to validate assay performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets to guide the development and optimization of assays.
  • Support translation of ultra-rapid chemistries from the bench top to a microfluidic device.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing and quality control, to integrate assay development with product pipelines.
  • Maintain a detailed research log and summarize work in research reports and presentations.
  • Present research findings, project updates, and technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in molecular biology and related fields to incorporate innovative approaches into assay development.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior scientists and research associates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or related field with a minimum of 2-4 years industry R&D experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with a broad range of molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to, various PCR techniques, Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and nucleic acid isolation and manipulation, and primer design.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, good organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with automation and high-throughput assay development is a plus.
  • Experience working with clinical samples.
