The Role:

Developer Relations is a global team on a mission to inspire, inform, and involve developers.

A partner on their journey, we are visible virtually and in person with knowledge, integrity, enthusiasm, and respect. Whether we meet a data scientist at a stealth start-up or a software engineer at one of the world’s largest video streaming platforms, every day is an opportunity to help people like us, to create strong, long-lasting relationships with them, and to bring people around pizza to make awesome things!

This senior role is an exciting opportunity for those with experience as a Developer Advocate, and for field engineers or solution architects looking to make a move into developer relations. You’ll take the lead in forging relationships with developers, and in planning, executing, and inspiring activity across the Americas.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing blog posts, speaking at conferences and meetups, creating demonstrations, facilitating Q&A sessions, etc. for people who are developing or operating solutions powered by Druid, or are just intrigued
  • Tutoring developers online and in person, listening to the problems and questions that people have, researching and delivering answers, and putting them in contact with others who can help
  • Creating learning environments, guides, plans, code samples, notebooks, and so on... any collateral that enables developers to be successful, and to go on to be effective champions
  • Maintaining a reliable view of the people and organizations in the community and what they need, driving activity to enhance the developer experience
  • Contributing to Apache Druid-related repositories and being a champion of the Apache Way

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in enterprise infrastructure, datastores, and analytical applications
  • Working experience creating content in various media, such as Python notebooks, Markdown documentation, diagrams, slideware, and SQL code samples. All done in a way that makes complex information easy to consume and that inspires and aids developers
  • Thorough understanding of SQL and its execution on distributed database systems
  • Excellent speaking, presentation, and writing skills, especially for developers
  • Working knowledge of Apache Druid’s dependencies, particularly Linux and the JRE, and a working experience of technologies adjunct to Apache Druid, particularly Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and Apache Superset
  • Involvement in application support and problem management, investigating and resolving issues effectively, ensuring action is taken to get answers and to find solutions
  • Positive, collaborative attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Up to 50% travel required, some international

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in two or more of the following: data modeling, data visualization, database design, and relationship management
  • Solution architecture, contributing to the understanding and development of data pipelines such as Clickstream, IOT, and APM, with an ability to articulate trade-offs in functionality, cost, performance, scalability
  • Knowledge of Python, Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Jupyter (or other notebooks), or GitHub
  • Project management, particularly for minor projects
  • Small event planning and execution experience

Individual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications aligned with Imply’s internal levelings guidelines and benchmarks. The below range encompasses roles with on target earnings. This role is also eligible to participate in Imply’s equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.

Compensation: $123,300 - $300,000
