Job Description

About the Product Department

The Senior Director, Digital Product Management is a leadership role within the Guardant Health Oncology Product Department, which is responsible for product portfolio strategy and new product introduction for all product lines in the oncology division. The Department comprises both data and assay products across therapy selection and disease monitoring assets, including integration of assets through external-facing digital products and infrastructure.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional leader to own our Guardant Oncology digital product strategy. In this role, you will work at the intersection of software, data, engineering, and the user experience as the accountable leader for all digital product initiatives from inception through execution to outcome.

Individually, you will own the oncology digital product portfolio strategy and implementation plan, integrating the competitive and technology landscapes, customer needs, and business priorities into concrete initiatives with defined business outcomes. Together with senior engineering leads, you will organize and plan implementation programs for each major initiative, mapping general architecture, resourcing, and delivery requirements. Lastly, you will directly manage a team of digital platform leads, to execute on those programs and ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-spec delivery.

This role is a rare opportunity to showcase strategic thinking and see those strategies through, from execution to business success. To be successful here, you will need deep technical fluency in cross-platform integration, guided by a forward-thinking perspective on emerging technologies, a strong execution discipline in execution, and (above all) be deeply committed to serving oncology providers as our customers, and patients as our mission. The ideal candidate also brings deep experience in software and AI/ML product development, a proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional programs from pre-concept through full deployment, and a strong orientation to delivery of innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Business performance
    • Define and lead the digital product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the entire oncology portfolio that will position Guardant as a leader in digital experience and value.
    • Partner with engineering, design, and data teams to build innovative, scalable, and technically sound products that delight users and meet business goals.
    • Translate abstract initiatives into well-organized, executable project plans that intelligently and thoughtfully achieve business objectives with maximum reliability at minimum investment.
    • Communicate everything, from strategy to program details, with clarity and precision to the execution team.
    • Drive product development cycles end-to-end, ensuring timely delivery and quality through agile practices.
    • Collaborate closely with stakeholders (from senior leadership to execution teams) to prioritize competing demands, manage trade-offs, and clearly communicate rationale and roadmap updates.
    • Measure performance success with a strong command of metrics and data, incorporating feedback to continuously iterate and improve.
    • Identify emerging technologies and market trends to inform long-term product vision.
  • Leadership
    • Serve as a mentor and thought leader within the product and engineering organizations, leading team development and setting a culture of excellence and personal growth.
    • Define product portfolio prioritization and communicate decisions and rationale to stakeholders.
    • Champion excellence and innovation – develop and refine practices within the product organization such that our collective performance consistently and demonstrably improves, year on year.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, software engineering, or related technical leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of shipping complex software and AI/ML products end-to-end, especially in rapidly-evolving, data-rich environments (regulated/clinicals environments a plus).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-impact programs from pre-concept to production.
  • Passion for building customer-centric experiences that turn complex data into actionable insights – whether for clinicians, operators, or consumers.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, data systems, APIs, and system design—able to collaborate deeply with engineers.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to use these to lead complex cross-functional projects involving engineering, design, and commercial functions.
  • An analytical mindset with demonstrated experience in product analytics.
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership and management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior product leadership experience at a top-tier tech company, enterprise SaaS, or platform companies with evidence of 0-to-1 product development.
  • Background in AI/ML, cloud infrastructure, mobile platforms, or privacy/security technologies. Exposure to regulated environments (eg medtech, fintech, govtech) is a plus.
  • Experience building both internal platforms and customer-facing products.
  • Strong design and UX instincts with a bias toward simple, elegant experiences.
  • MBA or relevant graduate degree is a plus.

Why you’ll love this role

  • You'll make strategic decisions that shape the trajectory of the company and industry – you’ll be in the most exciting shop in oncology diagnostics today, solving problems many in the field haven't yet considered.
  • You can lead with independence and support, backed by an organization that values quality and innovation.
  • You’ll collaborate with a highly-talented and mission-driven team who are united around a single vision.
  • Your work immediately and directly impacts the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients per year at some of the most critical moments in their lives.
