Job Description
Guardant Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Alliance Management to lead our Biopharma Alliance Management team. This individual will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team and, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration. The Director, Alliance Management – BioPharma Partnerships, will serve as a strategic problem solver for key client relationships and lead the development and execution of customer engagement strategies.
The Director, Alliance Management – BioPharma Partnerships, will play a critical leadership role in strengthening our partnerships with global biopharmaceutical companies, ensuring operational excellence and the delivery of mutual goals across strategic BioPharma accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and manage a the Alliance Management BioPharma partnerships team.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and growth-oriented team culture.
- Develop and implement talent development plans to ensure team growth and individual career progression.
- Establish best practices, workflows, and KPIs for alliance management across the biopharma organization.
- Strategic Problem Solving
- Serve as a hands-on leader who proactively identifies partnership challenges and develops detailed action plans to address them.
- Drive resolution of complex issues by coordinating cross-functional teams and aligning internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop structured frameworks for issue triage and resolution, with clear accountability, timelines, and success metrics.
- Translate customer needs into executable strategies, ensuring alignment with Guardant’s operational capabilities and business goals.
- Facilitate regular internal reviews to track issue progress, escalate unresolved blockers, and continuously improve service delivery.
- Key Account Management
- Develop and oversee strategic engagement plans for high-value biopharma partnerships.
- Align internal teams and customer stakeholders on shared objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
- Ensure successful execution of account goals, including partnership milestones, reporting, and strategic business reviews.
- Cultivate senior-level relationships with external partners to deepen collaboration and unlock future opportunities.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a university degree and typically 15 years of related experience; 12 years and a Master’s degree; 8 years and a PhD; or 5 years and a PharmD/MD.
- 10+ years of experience in biopharma alliance management, client success, or related roles.
- 3+ years of experience leading teams, preferably in the life sciences or diagnostics industry.
- Deep understanding of oncology pharma and diagnostic landscape
- Proven success managing complex, high-value partnerships with biopharma clients.
- Exceptional problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or MS in life sciences) preferred.
Additional Information
Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $170,510 to $234,430. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).
For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $200,600 to $275,800. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
