Job Description

As the Director of Media Relations, you will lead and develop media strategies to create awareness and drive demand for the company’s early cancer detection product Shield. We believe that by offering an accurate, simple blood test, we can transform cancer screening and help increase compliance rates, serving the millions of individuals who can benefit from early cancer detection.

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, you will have the opportunity to shape, implement and manage programs to raise the profile of Guardant Health, its early cancer detection portfolio, and the value these tests bring to patients. We are looking for someone to join our team of diverse, passionate and curious individuals, motivated to transform cancer care and make an impact on people’s lives.

Requirements

  • Serve as a strategic business partner to senior executives and cross-functional teams across the organization to ensure communications initiatives ladder up to the company and business priorities
  • Serve as an integral member of the corporate communications team developing proactive national and regional media plans as part of a broader communications strategy
  • Provide strategic counsel, direction and guidance on the right forum, timing, and messaging to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage communications around key milestones including important data announcements, regulatory milestones and product launches
  • Drive day-to-day media relations, managing press outreach, responding to media inquiries, and executing proactive media campaigns to increase awareness of the early cancer detection portfolio
  • Lead the development of communications materials including press releases, Q&As, fact sheets, videos, website content, executive talking points and product and company milestones
  • Serve as a media spokesperson, build and expanding relationships with key reporters
  • Prepare company spokespeople for media interviews and other engagements, including training spokespeople, as needed
  • Work closely with digital/social media team to manage the strategy, planning and implementation of Guardant Health’s social media presence in relation to its early detection portfolio
  • Manage agency partners, providing teams with appropriate information and oversight to effectively implement programs
  • Monitor, measure, and report on the effectiveness of media coverage using data-driven insights to continuously improve media relations efforts and refine strategies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience; relevant experience at a PR agency or in-house at a healthcare, biotech or diagnostic company preferred
  • BA or BS required, degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business or relevant field preferred
  • Product launch experience highly preferred.
  • Experience developing and executing measurable, integrated external communications plans
  • Team player with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels
  • Strong understanding of scientific concepts and the ability to translate technical language into laymen’s terms
  • Creative and solutions-oriented mentality when it comes to problem-solving
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to influence others and drive alignment across diverse cross-functional teams
  • Experience in creating and executing successful traditional and digital media strategies to drive positive coverage
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to navigate, problem-solve and execute in a fast-paced environment and simultaneously manage multiple assignments

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $210,400 to $289,300. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
