Research and Development Intern - IIP
Greenlight Biosciences
GreenLight BioSciences is the leader in RNAi-based biopesticides. In 2024, we gained approval for a sprayable dsRNA biopesticide, Calantha™, commercialized for potato plant protection against Colorado potato beetle in the U.S. In 2025, we launched Norroa™, targeting Varroa destructor in honeybee colonies and submitted for registration the first dsRNA fungicide for grape powdery mildew control.
Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Scientist to join our multidisciplinary for a 3-6-week internship. This role combines cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
Task overview:
Perform routine fungal culture, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, and RNAi experiments.
Conduct assays to study gene expression, silencing, and cellular responses.
Use light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy to visualize dsRNA delivery.
Prepare samples for imaging, including staining and live-cell imaging.
Analyze and interpret microscopy data to correlate cellular uptake with molecular outcomes.
Support the development of high-throughput methods for evaluating RNAi-based technologies
Contribute to data analysis, interpretation, and reporting for internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Science, Biotechnology, or related field.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience with molecular biology, RNA isolation, gene expression analyses, qPCR
Practical experience with microscopy (light, fluorescence, confocal, or live-cell imaging).
Familiarity with plant handling, greenhouse operations, or agricultural research.
Ability to operate and analyze data using a plate reader (absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence assays)
This program is funded through the North Carolina Biotechnology Center's Industrial Internship Program. IIP internships are designed to be spring/summer internships with specific dates/hours to be determined by company needs and candidate availability.
