An overview of this role

As an Engineering Manager, GitLab Dedicated, your primary focus lies on hiring and building a world-class team and putting them in the optimal position to succeed. You’ll do this by maintaining an environment where team members can thrive and the team produces results.

You will partner with a Product Manager to connect business goals and customer needs with sound engineering to create a scalable product. Your team will be globally distributed and you will work in an async and agile way to improve the reliability, quality, security, and performance of the GitLab Dedicated product.

In this role, you will participate in the Dedicated incident escalation rotation to enable engineers to meet GitLab Dedicated availability goals and SLAs.

The Dedicated teams build and manage our GitLab Dedicated SaaS service and are working on projects that enable us to better meet customer needs. Projects include enabling new features on the GitLab Dedicated product, scaling, compliance and improving team processes and automation.

What you’ll do

  • Manage a new Environment Automation Team within the Dedicated Group. Partner with the team’s Product Manager and line manage the team of engineers.
  • Manage and improve the availability, security & scalability of GitLab Dedicated
  • Maintain an environment where Team Members can thrive and the team produces results

  • Manage Agile projects
  • Improve the quality, security and performance of the product

What you’ll bring

  • Experience leading single or multi tenant SaaS systems, Infrastructure, SRE, or similar teams
  • Ability to deep dive into technical issues and translate this to understandable language for the business
  • Experience hiring, coaching, growing, and retaining Engineering talent
  • Deep technical understanding of running SaaS applications and infrastructure at scale
  • Experience leading a team on a large-scale consumer platform
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills

About the team

The GitLab Dedicated team’s mission is to create a fully managed, single-tenant GitLab environment, served through a GitLab Dedicated platform. It is developed to remove any manual interactions with customer tenant installations, and to ensure that the customer tenants are fully focused on unlocking the power of The One DevOps Platform.

The team is focused on owning the reliability, scalability, performance & security of the GitLab Dedicated product and its supporting services. The team is seeking to build an automated and scalable solution making use of GitLab features and cloud vendor managed products, where appropriate, to reduce complexity, improve efficiency and deliver new capabilities quicker.

The team uses Engineering Principles to guide the decisions it makes for its services. We aim to contribute the lessons we learn running GitLab Dedicated back into the GitLab application and GitLab.com to improve overall customer experience with GitLab. We collaborate closely with Support teams, Professional Services, and Customer Success Management teams to provide the best customer experience.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$142,800$275,400 USD
California/New York/New Jersey pay range
$142,800$306,000 USD
