POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for routine Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) compliance management at our Redding, CA plant and office location. As Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of the plant workforce and environment by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies and governmental standards; and maintenance of the EHS programs, policies, and procedures for the site. The primary objective is to ensure a zero harm and injury free working environment including methodologies, initiatives, and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training, and continuous improvement to eliminate unsafe behaviors, conditions, and hazards in the workplace. The EHS Specialist supports the strategic vision of a zero harm and an injury free workplace by working with cross-functional teams both internally and externally. As Office Administrator, you will perform general administrative tasks and manage daily office operations to support the Fortera Redding plant & warehouse/office.
This position reports to the Director of Environmental Health & Safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Environmental Health & Safety Specialist Responsibilities (80%):
- Maintain EHS policies, programs and procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards
- Be a safety advocate and proactively look for opportunities to improve safety programs and educate and encourage employees to do the same applying lean tools
- Serve as a technical resource to the company in sophisticated areas of EHS Compliance, risk management, hazardous materials/waste, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, and/or ergonomics
- Coordinate handling/removal of hazardous materials and waste (profile waste streams, maintain manifests, and compile environmental reporting)
- Perform periodic audits to identify potential environmental and workplace hazards, program deficiencies, liabilities and help with inspections
- Oversee the site's Accident and Incident reporting process.
- Participate in incident investigations, ensuring root cause and countermeasure identification is completed to eliminate future injury
- Coordinate all Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health related training
- Maintain routine safety and environmental reports and records (HMBP, SDSs, etc.)
- Assist with changes to manufacturing/office areas to ensure established safety standards are met
- Submit purchase requisitions for safety related equipment or PPE.
Office Administrator Responsibilities (20%):
- Receiving of shipments (receiving in purchasing system, distribution of items, tracking orders and following up on discrepancies)
- Creating shipping labels and scheduling pickups for domestic and international shipments
- Preserve and foster a collaborative, positive work environment and external reputation and model ethical conduct and inclusion throughout the organization.
- Maintain office space (snacks and beverages, plants, kitchen, office supplies, cleaning supplies)
- Responsible for scheduling truck maintenance & registration of company vehicles
- Maintain relationships with outside vendors – cleaning services, water provider, supplies, etc.
- Equip workstations for new hires
- Manage office supply orders, including drinks & snacks
- Keep office stocked & clean
- Order team lunches
- Assist in planning and coordinating employee events
- Maintain fully compliant workplace posters in all Redding locations
- Miscellaneous research and tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering
- 2+ years’ experience in EH&S or related field, Chemical Industry preferred
- Fundamental understanding of EHS principles, concepts, practices, standards, and regulations
- Knowledgeable of EPA, OSHA, DOT regulations, MSHA preferred
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness and crisis management
- Proven ability to update and develop safety and environmental procedures
- Knowledge of control of hazardous substances, incident investigation, and health and safety management systems
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to EHS
- Experience performing Hazard Assessments and pre-job inspections
- Ability to lead and facilitate projects to conclusion, adapt to changes in the work environment and demonstrate flexibility
- Ability to multi-task keeping company objectives and demonstrate appropriate sense of urgency with regards to responsiveness with addressing any high risk compliance issues, and handle risk proactively
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and direction

- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Project
- Familiarity and experience using software applications and web-based tools related to EHS reporting for plant operations preferred
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. regularly
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment
- This position may require a valid CA Driver’s License

COMPENSATION:
The compensation package for this role includes a compensation package commensurate with experience of $75,000 - $90,000 an annual bonus and pre-IPO incentive stock options.
