With over ten years of testing and 100,000 hours of R&D backing the technology, Fortera is ready to grow the team and begin commercial production of this exciting new product. Be on the ground floor of a carbon-to-value movement that will impact millions for generations to come. We are looking for passionate thinkers, doers, and problem-solvers who share our vision that big challenges are big opportunities for change. Visit www.forteraglobal.com for more information.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Capital Projects Team develops, coordinates, and directs projects in design and construction of processing plants utilizing Fortera’s proprietary technologies, which will be located at existing cement or lime facilities. We internally drive projects to successful completion, utilizing EPC contractors for the engineering and construction of large-scale plants.

In this position, you will oversee multiple electrical projects. The Lead Electrical Engineer will be Fortera’s initial Electrical Engineer and will eventually lead a team. You will be responsible for the overall electrical design of Fortera’s commercial plants. You will create a plan and design basis for the plant’s power distribution and low voltage systems. You will oversee the technical design of the electrical systems done by an EPC and review the engineering deliverables for accuracy, quality, safety, and cost effectiveness. You will also ensure the accuracy of electrical design calculations. As the Lead you will be involved in project planning, resource allocation, and risk management. You will collaborate with other team leaders to ensure the smooth progression of projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop the electrical design basis for commercial plants. Interface with EPC companies, vendors, engineering companies, and subject matter experts to design and build large production plants to ensure product is designed and built to appropriate standards.
  • Review and approve design documents from equipment vendors.
  • Work with process and controls engineers on system design for commercial plants utilizing medium and low voltage systems.
  • Review and approve electrical equipment data sheets, load lists, I/O lists, cause and effect tables, P&IDs, electrical equipment specifications, and detailed design engineering documents produced by EPCs and engineering contractors.
  • Participate in safety studies, such as arc flash and HAZOP studies.
  • Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning. Provide support to on-site electrical construction teams and assist with plant commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Work with the internal commissioning team and equipment vendors on procedures to support the safe commissioning and start-up of the commercial plants.
  • Work with the process development and R&D teams to integrate process improvements and electrical design improvements into commercial plant design. Work with all teams to find new ideas and strategies for lowering overall electrical plants costs (CAPEX and OPEX) and how to utilize renewable energy solutions in our commercial plants.
  • Working with other engineering leaders, establish project goals, milestones, and procedures.
  • Champion a culture of excellence by setting high standards for electrical and low voltage design.
  • Proactively address performance issues and project quality concerns.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks to ensure timely and budget-conscious project completion.
  • As a subject matter expert, coordinate with site partners, equipment vendors, and contractors to ensure all electrical equipment and designs are safe, effective, and meet all project objectives.
  • Coordinate project resources and monitor team progress on multiple projects.
  • Serve as a technical advisor, offering senior-level insights and project evaluations.
  • Define and develop systems completion plans (including mechanical completion, commissioning, and start-up) in conjunction with EPCs and Operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or management experience.
  • Strong project engineering skills and a strategic perspective.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation abilities.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Excellent with engineering studies and calculations such as load flow, short circuit analysis, motor starting, relay coordination, arc flash and grounding studies.
  • Experience with creating and reviewing electrical engineering documents, such as: one line and three-line diagrams, arc-flash hazard calculations, panel layouts, equipment layouts, equipment specifications, connection diagrams, cable schedules, grounding analysis and design, and power distribution design.
  • Experience with NEC, NFPA, IEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, UL, CSA, CE, and BS standards.
  • Someone with EPC experience on large scale engineering and construction projects
  • Learn and adapt quickly and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
