About Us

At Ello, our mission is simple and urgent: maximize the potential of every child, everywhere.

We’re building the world’s first AI teacher to close that gap: one that listens, speaks, adapts, and inspires, just like the best human educators.

Our first product, Read with Ello, is already helping tens of thousands of kids each week learn to read. It listens as they read aloud, offers support when they stumble, and generates magical, personalized stories using generative AI. It works—and kids love it.

Now, we’re scaling that success into something even bigger: a complete AI teacher for all children. We’re building a real-time learning platform—one that combines language, speech, and memory to power personalized, interactive education for kids worldwide. We’re moving fast: we ship weekly, test directly with kids and families, and push the boundaries of what AI can do in education.

With the resources of the world's top investors and the heart of a public benefit corporation, we’re here to revolutionize how children learn globally. Featured on TIME’s Best Inventions and Fortune’s Change the World, Ello is a small, mission-driven team taking on one of the most important challenges of our time: to democratize education.

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled 2D Artist who is proficient in Adobe Illustrator to help bring the world of Ello to life. In this role, you’ll collaborate with the Design team to expand our character library and world-building assets, all while maintaining and building upon our established visual style.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and prep clean, scalable vector artwork using Adobe Illustrator

  • Vector character poses, character parts (e.g., limbs, facial features), and props to support rigging and animation

  • Follow established style guides and templates to maintain visual consistency

  • Refine and polish sketches or rough concepts into final vector assets

  • Collaborate with art directors, designers, and animators to meet production needs

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and vector-based workflows

  • Ability to work within an existing art style with precision and consistency

  • Experience preparing artwork specifically for rigging and animation

  • Excellent attention to detail and file organization

  • Clear communication and responsiveness in a remote work setting

  • Bonus: Experience in children’s content, character art, or animation pipelines

Here are some reasons to join us

  • Do work that matters and make a true impact on child development at scale

  • Be part of an exceptional team doing exceptional work at the forefront of AI

  • Tremendous career development opportunities during our exciting early phase

  • Thrive in an inspiring, creative, and diverse environment with amazing and smart colleagues from all over the world

  • Get challenged and develop your professional skills with a steep learning curve from day one

Our Team

Our team has deep expertise in artificial intelligence, K-12 education, and child development across institutions such as Stanford, Berkeley, Google, Apple, and more. We were part of Y Combinator’s W20 batch and have recently closed a $15M series A led by Goodwater Capital, with major participation from Homebrew (returning investors), Reed Hastings, Common Sense Growth, and Ravensburger. This adds to existing funding led by Project A Ventures with additional investors including Reach Capital, Khosla Ventures, WndrCo, Visible Ventures, and K9 Ventures.

We’re a small, collaborative team that takes each other’s voices very seriously. Because our mission is to support all children, it is critical that our team is representative of the wider community. We place significant emphasis on ensuring diversity in our team and inclusion in our culture.

We want to create an environment in which we can all be our best selves, use our strengths to take Ello forward and develop our own skills. We want to have fun while working hard to do impactful things that we’re proud of – and we believe it’s possible to do both.

At Ello, we view diversity as a moral imperative and a competitive advantage. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, skin color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We plan and structure our interviews to directly assess skills and experience. If you need any accommodations throughout the interview process, please reach out to recruiting@ello.com
