PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO, eGenesis-WI), the Research Veterinarian has an essential role supporting the broader mission of the Company. Working at our Mount Horeb facility, this person will ensure adequate veterinary care by developing and supervising programs in preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic medicine. This includes, but is not limited to, examining animals, diagnosing and prescribing appropriate therapy, medical treatments or special conditioning requirements, and assessing herd health status.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing direction to technical staff involved in daily care and clinical oversight/support for research animals, assisting investigators to develop and optimize both surgical and non-surgical animal models. This further includes participating in disease diagnosis and experimentation, as well as staff training. This person will efficiently perform all required procedures assigned in a biosecure environment.

The new Research Veterinarian will work collaboratively on all Veterinary Science Department activities, which includes working in close partnership with Attending Veterinarians at select institutions and abiding by all eGenesis policies and procedures relevant to this position. Coordinate all activities related to physiology studies and other research that involves animal health. Oversee the animal health/medical record database. Participate in department, division, and other meetings as requested.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The selected individual will support the Company’s Research Programs by performing clinical, pathological, and surgical activities.

As a Clinical Veterinarian:

· Perform research on neonate and adult animals in the pursuit of preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease.

· Maintain the company’s pig herd health by vaccinating, diagnosing, and treating diseases and injuries.

· Determine the nature of disease or injury through observation and laboratory analysis.

· Restore animal health by treating pigs surgically and/or medically.

· Document actions by completing and updating forms, reports, and animal medical records.

As a Veterinary Pathologist:

· Perform biopsy and post-mortem exams (necropsy).

· Collect and prepare samples for laboratory tests.

· Analyze lab test results.

· Determine the cause of death.

As a Veterinary Surgeon:

· Routinely, perform laparotomic embryo transfer, and cesarean section.

· Vascular access port implantation.

· Any curative surgery.

On assisted reproductive technology (ART) area:

· Pregnancy check via ultrasonography.

Promote and adhere to safety in the workplace.

· Promote safety awareness and adherence to health and safety regulations and practices.

· Take corrective action in response to unsafe acts and conditions. Ensure equipment is properly used and maintained.

· Report and investigate all accidents/incidents.

· Inspect area and take remedial action to minimize and/or eliminate hazards.

· Complete required training assignments, forms, and other paperwork.

Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine.

· Successful completion of an ACLAM recognized training program in Laboratory Animal Medicine desired but other candidates considered.

· Experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine desired (may include experience during training).

· License to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state in the US (state of Wisconsin license required within one year of employment). USDA Accreditation at the time of application.

· Must be service oriented and have the ability to work independently.

· Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, mentoring and teaching skills.
