About the Team

The Public Policy and Social Impact Team is a fast-growing, dynamic, collaborative group working to help Dashers, local businesses, and cities thrive. From creating new protections and benefits for workers, to supporting small businesses through innovative partnerships, to connecting communities in need with the power of last-mile logistics, we are at the cutting edge of public policy issues at all levels of government around the globe.

About the Role

DoorDash is looking for an experienced legislative counsel and policy development professional to join the team’s Policy Development and Research Group. The Senior Legislative Counsel will shape the legal and regulatory framework for a new sector of the economy at a pivotal moment in Australia and New Zealand. This expansive role will focus on legislative analysis, developing our policy positions with input from cross-functional business teams, and strategic input on our policy priorities. You will work with the Head of Policy & Government Relations in the region and stakeholders across the company to develop and support the adoption of policies that best serve Dashers, merchants, and consumers.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Conceptualise, draft, analyse, and advise on legislative and regulatory proposals covering a wide range of policy issues affecting Dashers, merchants, consumers, and other aspects of DoorDash’s business at the local, state, and federal levels in Australia and New Zealand – playing a pivotal role in shaping the future regulatory environment for our industry.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Policy and Government Relations, Australia & New Zealand, other members of the Policy Team (including those based in other markets), and business partners – from Strategy & Operations to Product to Finance – to develop DoorDash’s position on potential legislation and regulations.
  • Keep partners on business teams apprised of regulatory developments, and work with cross-functional partners and Legal to plan for new laws and regulations, providing strategic input on our compliance plans.
  • Collaborate with counterparts at peer companies to build industry alignment on important policy issues facing the gig economy across the country.
  • As needed, support the Head of Policy & Government Relations in representing DoorDash in conversations with policymakers and other stakeholders.
  • Work with Policy Research to engage with academics, think tanks, and other research institutions to ensure DoorDash remains at the cutting edge of public policy debates on the issues that impact our business and Dashers, merchants, and consumers.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You are qualified to practice law and have legal experience in Australia with a strong academic record. Although this role is not on the Legal Team, strong legal skills are required.
  • You have at least 7 years of legal experience, including 2 at a law firm, with a demonstrated record of success as a lawyer focusing on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues.
  • You have experience working in a global business environment, demonstrating the ability to operate with strong cross-cultural competence and flexibility with working hours – as well as the ability to occasionally travel to other cities in Australia, as well as the U.S. and Europe to further global collaboration across the team.
  • Bonus points for experience in labour law, at a top law firm, in-house at a technology company, and/or with a U.S.-based company.
