About Us
Deep Genomics is at the forefront of using artificial intelligence to transform drug discovery. Our proprietary AI platform decodes the complexity of genome biology to identify novel drug targets, mechanisms, and therapeutics inaccessible through traditional methods. With expertise spanning machine learning, bioinformatics, data science, engineering, and drug development, our multidisciplinary team in Toronto and Cambridge, MA is revolutionizing how new medicines are created.
Where You Fit In
You will be working as part of a team conducting screens of various nucleic acid based compounds in cell lines that will generate proprietary data to support our genetic medicine discovery platform. You will (co-)lead the design, execution, and troubleshooting of diverse screening workflows. This work will support our Machine Learning Team to improve our AI platform and power discovery of the next generation of genetic medicines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cultures of commonly used human cell lines.
  • Conduct standard bacterial cloning workflows including electroporation.
  • Perform transfections of various nucleic acid payloads in both pooled (i.e. library) and arrayed formats.
  • Purify cellular material (e.g. DNA, RNA, and protein) from treated cells (in both manual and automated fashions).
  • Perform, interpret, and troubleshoot standard molecular biological techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, plasmid cloning, and Illumina library preparation.
  • Handle automation machinery such as the Hamilton, BRAVO, and Echo to automate screening workflows as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed electronic laboratory records.
  • Analyze data, generate summary slide decks and regularly present to internal teams.
  • Assist in general lab duties such as lab equipment maintenance and inventorying.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Comfortable conducting mammalian cell culture diligently.
  • Prior hands-on experience with highly complex libraries (e.g. MPRAs) or working with a large number of samples in parallel.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in executing experiments, troubleshooting, and maintaining records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and conducting complex screening workflows (e.g. MPRA, CRISPR, Perturb-Seq, etc.).
  • Evidence of leading a complex project in molecular/cellular biology (e.g. first author publications, prior work experience, patent authorship, etc.).
  • Expertise in RNA biology.
  • Familiarity with diverse NGS workflows (e.g. short-read, single cell, long-read).
  • Comfortable performing straightforward analyses that involves command line tools or common programming languages (e.g. Python, R, etc.).
  • Experience working in a fully integrated lab environment that utilizes online lab systems tracking software such as Benchling.

What we offer

  • A collaborative and innovative environment at the frontier of computational biology, machine learning, and drug discovery.
  • Highly competitive compensation, including meaningful stock ownership.
  • Comprehensive benefits - including health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and families, employee and family assistance program.
  • Flexible work environment - including flexible hours, extended long weekends, holiday shutdown, unlimited personal days.
  • Maternity and parental leave top-up coverage, as well as new parent paid time off.
  • Focus on learning and growth for all employees - learning and development budget & lunch and learns.
  • Facilities located in the heart of Toronto - the epicenter of machine learning and AI research and development, and in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Mass. - a global center of biotechnology and life sciences.
