Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. Our mission is to deploy these power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. To that end, CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by the world’s leading investors, CFS is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.
CFS is seeking an experienced quality inspector to lead inspection and test activities for the SPARC
project, during the PASY (pre-assembly) phase of the program. You will perform daily inspections on
precision components using a variety of advanced inspection tools, working closely with the SPARC

  • Support other mechanical testing and welding inspection needs as required
  • Review blueprints and documentation to ensure appropriate materials are used and specifications are followed
  • Interface with technicians on issues related to quality and help them in understanding and interpreting quality specifications and technical drawings
  • Develop creative inspection techniques and fixturing as required with the assistance of quality engineering to deliver innovative measurement solutions to the PASY team
  • Serve as a metrology subject matter expert for the PASY operation for SPARC
  • In coordination with the quality engineering team, ensure that measurements are qualified using appropriate statistical techniques and tools
  • Work with quality engineering personnel, establish SOP’s and work instructions for developed techniques

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • GD&T Training
  • 5+ years of experience in advanced mechanical inspections
  • Proficiency in interpretation and usage of ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance)
  • The ability to set up, maintain, and use varieties of inspection hand tools (caliper, micrometer, bore gages, rings & plug gages, profilometer, coating thickness gage, comparator, sine bar, etc.)
  • CMM, Romer Arm, etc

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

  • Experience in Aerospace or Automotive industry
  • Zeiss Calypso programming experience
  • Polyworks experience
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs
