Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. Our mission is to deploy these power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. To that end, CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by the world’s leading investors, CFS is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.
This role will build relationships and programs with CFS partner institutions and federal and international governmental bodies to achieve technical and business goals across all company roadmaps.

This team member will:

  • Integrate with internal R&D, engineering, procurement and policy teams to understand existing roadmaps and technical and business gaps
  • Identify, recruit and build new collaborators, programs and relationships with the capabilities required to retire risk and accelerate roadmaps. Partners may include large and small companies, universities, National Labs, non-profit organizations, and foreign research organizations
  • Take ownership of existing relationships with key international public and private fusion programs
  • Pitch new programs and collaborations to CFS technical and business unit leads and external parties
  • Devise and execute funding strategy for these programs, including but not limited to government grants, in-kind private collaborations, and other internal and external funding
  • Write government grant applications, program pitches, and other documents as needed
  • Support new program launch, execution, and conclusion. This includes executing contracts, setting and tracking milestones and deliverables, and memorializing outputs
  • Support innovation process across company divisions

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied physics discipline
  • Experience owning, developing or managing a technical project, program or product
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new technical fields and be able to converse with experts in those fields
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills – ability to synthesize and present complex technical, programmatic and business information
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Intellectual creativity, and problem-solving skills
  • Entrepreneurial, fast-moving fire-starter

Additional experience and/or qualifications:

  • Research experience with publication or program execution track record
  • Experience navigating complex organizations with multiple stakeholders to achieve business or technical aims
  • Perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
  • May need to walk around lab, R&D, and manufacturing environments
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
  • #LI-Hybrid
CFS team members thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. We all tightly align with our company values of integrity, execution, impact and self-critique. As we grow, we are looking to add talented people who are mission driven and bring diverse perspectives and new ways of solving problems.
