Build
Collaborative Robotics (“Cobot”) is building robots that work safely and effectively alongside people. As a Build Specialist, you’ll be a core member of the hardware team, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting our Prod Proxie robots and related electro-mechanical assemblies.
You’ll help us scale from early, low-volume builds to more structured, repeatable builds as the product and build processes mature. You’ll work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, turning evolving designs into reliable, buildable hardware that we manufacture in-house.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble electro-mechanical subassemblies and full robots from drawings, 3D models, work instructions, or direction from engineers.
Use torque tools, fixtures, and jigs to achieve consistent, repeatable assembly quality.
Perform wiring and harness routing (crimping, pinning, labeling, strain relief) as part of the overall system build.
Run bring-up and functional tests (continuity checks, power-on, basic motion and sensor checks) and clearly document results.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues together with engineers and help drive to root cause.
Provide design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and process feedback on parts, assemblies, and work instructions to improve build speed, yield, and robustness.
Contribute to and refine build documentation: work instructions, torque specs, checklists, and test procedures.
Occasionally support reliability or longer-duration testing
Help maintain an organized, safe, and efficient lab (tools, inventory, ESD practices, general 5S mindset).
Minimum qualifications:
Significant hands-on experience building electro-mechanical systems in robotics, automotive/EV, aerospace, industrial automation, or similar domains (typically 5+ years or equivalent depth).
Strong mechanical assembly skills: fasteners, torque tools, alignment, and use of fixtures/jigs.
Experience with wiring and harness work (crimping, pinning, routing, strain relief) as part of larger assemblies.
Able to read and follow technical instructions (work instructions, drawings, or direct guidance from engineers).
Clear written and verbal communication and comfort working onsite in a fast-moving, collaborative startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a pilot line / NPI / launch technician or similar role on complex electro-mechanical products (EVs, autonomous vehicles, robots, industrial machines).
Prior involvement in DFM / DFT or improving build processes and documentation.
Familiarity with reliability or lifecycle testing of hardware.
Experience with 3D printing, basic machining, or simple fixture building.
Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot and collaborate with engineers to resolve issues.
Experience updating or creating build documentation (work instructions, checklists, torque specs, test procedures).
