Role Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal and risk management expertise across the business and play a key role in helping the business realise various commercial and strategic imperatives.
The role requires the ability to give commercial as well as legal advice, to operate comfortably and effectively in many different jurisdictions, and to promptly identify risks and issues for escalation to appropriate senior stakeholders.
Boku is fast paced, so the successful candidate will need to be able to cope with change quickly and be enthused and excited about what’s around the corner. This also means the ability to make quick, confident, commercial calls - both assist and lead on complex contract negotiations. This is a small team, that covers a lot of ground, and it can only do that by being hardworking, flexible, adaptable and agile – both within the business and within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Company’s various contract drafting and negotiations with its global supplier and merchant base
- Deelop expertise in the relevant Company’s products and build strong relationships with cross-functional colleagues in various offices
- Develop a detailed understanding of the current agreements with strategic merchants to effectively advise the business on matters that may arise and to drive future business
- Support on major commercial projects and workstreams
- Be a sounding board for senior commercial stakeholders on strategic commercial issues
- Provide training to commercial teams on relevant topics
- Assist with the maintenance and development of Company’s contract database, onboarding/contract management processes and agreement templates
- Other duties assigned at management’s discretion
- Helping develop more junior members of the team
Key Skills, Experience, and Competencies
- Previous exposure to a wide variety of commercial contracts, ideally with some exposure to technology/payments contracts
- Flexible, adaptable, a fast learner
- Ability to forge relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
- Comfortable operating with a degree of autonomy in a fluid, fast paced environment
Desirable (but not obligatory):
- Previous in-house experience in the space of payments and/or telecommunications
- Worked for a public listed company
- Exposure to any of corporate, M&A, employment, regulatory and/or contentious work
- Foreign languages
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer likely to have a minimum of 2 years’ PQE gained in a commercial environment
- Law degree
