Role Purpose

As a Business Development Manager for Korea, you will lead Boku’s expansion efforts in the Korean market by establishing strong relationships with key payment partners such as mobile carriers, e-wallets, and fintech companies. You will work closely with eternal partners and internal global teams and cross-functional stakeholders to onboard and scale local merchants to global LPMs (local payment methods), drive merchant enablement, and ensure operational excellence.

This is a strategic and hands-on role that combines partnership development, market analysis, and commercial growth responsibilities. Ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to take ownership in shaping Boku’s Korea business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the key contact for all Korean LPM partners and merchants.
  • Serve as a payment specialist for LPMs to answer in-depth LPMs' requests and provide the necessary guidance
  • Identify, engage, and onboard new Korean payment partners (carriers, wallets, fintech platforms) and local merchants who want to global market.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing partners to drive transaction volume and performance.
  • Support new merchant launches in Korea by aligning with product, integration, compliance, and legal teams.
  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to resolve partner issues and ensure seamless day-to-day operations.
  • Analyze partner performance and proactively recommend improvements to maximize revenue.
  • Keep abreast of local market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive landscape to inform strategy.
  • Prepare and deliver impactful business proposals, presentations, and partner reports.
  • Represent Boku at key industry events, meetings, and conferences in Korea.

Measures of Success

  • Number of new payment partners onboarded and integrated
  • Growth in payment transaction volume and revenue in Korea
  • Success and retention of merchant launches using Korean LPMs
  • Number of the New Local Merchant acquiring and Revenue growth
  • Delivery of quarterly business reviews and strategic plans

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Proven experience in business development or partnerships in the Korean payments or fintech industry (working in PG experience is plus)
  • Strong knowledge of the Korean local payments ecosystem (e.g. carrier billing, KakaoPay, NaverPay, Toss)
  • Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to derive insights from performance data
  • Ability to navigate and influence in a cross-functional, multicultural environment
  • Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and accountability
  • Fluent in Korean and English (spoken and written)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field (required); Master’s degree (preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in payments, fintech, or digital services
  • Experience working with international teams or global companies (preferred)
