As Blockstream continues to scale its international operations, we are expanding our finance leadership presence in Europe to support growth, governance, and operational excellence across the EMEA region.
Blockstream is seeking a Director of Finance, EMEA to lead regional finance operations from our European headquarters in Lugano. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing accounting, financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, treasury coordination, statutory compliance, and operational finance across the EMEA region.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the Managing Director of Europe, this role serves as the primary finance leader for EMEA and a key bridge between regional operations and global finance leadership. In addition, the role will collaborate on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis with the Corporate Controller (based in Montreal) and the VP of Finance & Investor Relations (based in Los Angeles).
The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader with strong technical accounting foundations, regional operating experience, and the ability to manage complexity in a fast-growing, technology-driven environment.
What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities):
Regional Financial Leadership
Serve as the senior finance leader for the EMEA region, partnering closely with the CFO, Corporate Controller and MD Europe on strategy, execution, and financial decision-making
Act as a trusted advisor to regional leadership on financial performance, risk, and resource allocation
Accounting, Reporting & Close
Own EMEA accounting operations, including general ledger, AR/AP, payroll coordination, intercompany accounting, local tax and statutory reporting
Lead and execute the regional month-end and quarter-end close process,
ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with global close timelinesAct as final regional reviewer for statutory accounts, audit deliverables, and management reporting prior to global consolidation.
Ensure compliance with IFRS, local statutory requirements, and alignment with Group GAAP / PCAOB reporting standards
FP&A, Budgeting & Cash Management
Lead EMEA budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities in coordination with global FP&A
Analyze actuals vs. budget, explain variances, and deliver actionable insights to management
Oversee regional cash flow planning, working capital management, and coordination with global treasury
Revenue Recognition & Technical Accounting
Support revenue recognition analysis under IFRS 15 / ASC 606 for regional contracts
Review non-standard contracts in partnership with Legal and global finance to ensure appropriate accounting treatment
Assist with equity, intercompany, and other complex accounting matters as needed
Audit, Controls & Compliance
Serve as primary EMEA point of contact for external auditors, local statutory auditors, and advisors
Support global audit processes, including PCAOB readiness and internal controls documentation
Maintain strong internal controls and assist with SOX-aligned processes where applicable
Tax & Statutory Oversight
Oversee regional tax compliance, filings, and coordination with external tax advisors
Ensure timely completion of statutory accounts and regulatory filings across EMEA jurisdictions
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
Build, manage, and develop the EMEA finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Partner with HR and global finance leadership on hiring, org design, and capability building
Systems & Process Improvement
Operate hands-on within current ERP and reporting environment, including direct system use where required
Partner with global finance on ERP optimization, close acceleration, reporting standardization and automation initiatives.
Identify and resolve data quality issues, manual workarounds, and process gaps across EMEA.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):
Proven experience leading finance or accounting functions in a regional or international environment
Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and solid understanding of US GAAP
Familiarity with multiple financial and regulatory regimes, including Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands
Experience with revenue recognition, contract accounting, and multi-entity structures
Demonstrated ability to manage audits, internal controls, and statutory compliance
Strong business partnering skills and ability to work across cultures and functions
Comfortable operating in both strategic and hands-on execution modes
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
Big 4 or top-tier public accounting experience strongly preferred
Minimum 8+ years of progressive finance / accounting experience, including leadership roles in international or EMEA regional organizations

Languages: fluency in English and Italian; professional working proficiency in German, particularly in Swiss business contexts and French preferred
Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience in technology, financial infrastructure, or highly regulated industries
Exposure to digital asset, blockchain, or crypto-adjacent businesses
