The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work directly as a member of a new product development team, applying their mechanical expertise to deliver a novel, integrated system to solve immediate customer challenges. Responsibilities include:

  1. Internalize the notion of ownership, display the qualities of a self-starter and proactively problem solve on a cross disciplinary product team to advance designs from conceptualization to customer acceptance.
  2. Deeply understand existing customer operational needs and constraints to define sub-system requirements.
  3. Design practical solutions both quickly and carefully, independently preempting issues of manufacturability and future maintenance.
  4. Design and execute tests to disambiguate between candidate solutions, find the best approach, and convince the team of your conclusion.
  5. Transform tested conceptual solutions into robust product designs in coordination with engineering operations, the customer and contract manufacturers.
  6. Design and release components and systems using SolidWorks.
  7. Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions.
  8. Hands-on prototyping, utilizing shop tools and equipment to quickly iterate ideas and solutions.
  9. Travel to suppliers and customers as necessary to support build and installation of system.
  10. Work with suppliers, machinists, contract manufacturers, and shippers to guarantee on-time delivery and deployment for fully assembled, functional, and tested electromechanical systems to customer facilities.
  11. Perform test and verification of prototype systems.
  12. Perform system design analyses, including reliability, design-for-manufacture, design-for-assembly, cost-takeout, etc.

Travel Requirement: 5% Domestic and 6/% International Travel Required Per Year

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements:

The Employer requires a Master's degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering field and at least four (4) years of work experience as a mechanical engineer advancing designs from initial concept through initial production.

Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering field and at least six (6) years of work experience as a mechanical engineer advancing designs from initial concept through initial production.

Additionally, the successful candidate must have:

  • Demonstrated ability using 3D CAD, SolidWorks - including 2D drawings, simulations, and PDM gained through at least four (4) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability designing motion control systems with sensors, actuators, and complex mechanisms gained through at least four (4) years of project work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability designing systems that are used in industrial settings gained through at least three (3) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASME Drafting standards including GD&T and Y 14.5-2009 gained through at least three (3) years of work experience or the completion of at least two (2) product development cycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about risk; including design, manufacturing, reliability, and mitigations gained through at least four (4) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability with structural and vibration analyses gained through at least two (2) approved and released designs.
