This position will work directly as a member of an advanced product development team, applying their expertise to deliver an integrated system that solves immediate customer challenges. They will at times work independently on pieces of systems, or with other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive system design. The candidate must be capable of a great deal of autonomy, leading the design and programming of industrial robots and systems through into production at customer sites. We expect our team members to take poorly or partially understood problems and develop pragmatic solutions quickly and independently.

Functions

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Engaging with program lead to frame and execute controls projects
  • Electrical system and component design
  • Program robots and systems using tools such as Siemens TIA Portal, ABB Robot Studio and other industrial control environments
  • Design networks and distributed I/O such as Ethernet, Profinet and EtherCAT
  • Design and participate in reviews of electrical control architectures for new programs
  • Lead technicians, supports builds and ability to remotely debug at customer sites

Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering or similar (e.g. Computer, Mechanical, Robotics Engineering, Physics)
  • Six or more years of related work experience in electrical & control design, preferably advancing designs from initial concept through ongoing production in industries such as material handling, process automation, piece part automation or semiconducton.
  • Ability to work with customers and contract manufacturers
  • Ability to set aggressive but feasible schedules/milestones for your own work, and achieve them.
  • Ability to think strategically about risk; design, manufacturing, reliability, and mitigations thereof.
  • High level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.)
  • Significant experience with:
    • DC, analog, single phase and three phase circuit design
    • Controls programming using Siemens or Rockwell PLCs
    • Design selection of electromechanical systems including motors, gearheads and actuators
    • Various motor architectures in the power range of 50W-3kW
    • Functional safety devices and relationship to Safety Performance Level
    • Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical and control systems
  • Additional experience or working knowledge in:
    • Using Siemens TIA portal or CODESYS.
    • Developing and maintaining electrical designs in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
    • Root cause analysis and managing rollout of updates, including service bulletins
    • Control interface stacks such as OPC/UA, TCP-IP sockets and Profinet
    • API definition for control systems interface with higher level software
    • Selection and control of BLDC, servo, stepper and induction motors
    • Use of lab tools including, Logic/Bus Analyzer and wireshark
    • Selecting, specify and integrate sensing solutions including retroreflective, inductive proximity, Reed switchs, and load cells
