Who is Automat?

Automat was founded by a diverse group of creative technologists from teams like Google Creative Lab and Google Robotics at X.

Now, we’re building Automat - the simplest way for companies to create AI agents that take on repetitive, tedious tasks — from navigating complex user interfaces to reading and processing documents. Our technology helps some of the world’s largest companies streamline their operations, which is extremely valuable to them. We’re scaling quickly and need your help.

We believe that building automations will be as simple as showing a coworker an workflow to automate: Imagine a cracked automation developer sitting over your shoulder, turning your most boring workflows into reliable, deterministic automations that execute in seconds. Come help us build this.

Practically - we're redefining Enterprise AI Agents (Robotic Process Automation) and Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), developing the necessary tooling and infrastructure to incorporate the advancements of AI into practical, real-world applications.

The Role

We’re seeking a high-agency Chief of Staff to partner closely with our CEO. You’ll operate at the intersection of product, engineering, and strategy—allocating resources, aligning teams, and executing. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving and plays a vital part in shaping priorities, culture, and impact across the company.

You will primarily be an operator who forms a thesis, executes with excellence, and then figures out how to operationalize and scale it.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor to the CEO

  • Drive execution of company priorities by leading key cross-functional initiatives and ensuring alignment and accountability across teams.

  • Own internal planning processes (OKRs, quarterly planning, leadership off-sites, board prep, etc.)

  • Enhance cross-departmental communication and efficiency by streamlining processes, removing roadblocks, and implementing scalable solutions

  • Prepare presentations, reports, and analysis for board meetings, investor updates, and strategic decision-making

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and organizational planning at the leadership level

  • Operate with a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and judgment

Who You Are

  • 4+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment (startups, consulting, VC/PE-backed companies, or similar)

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple work streams at one time

  • Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to distill complex ideas into actionable plans

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—you’re just as comfortable in the boardroom as you are in the weeds

  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable with ambiguity

What’s in your toolbox

  • Financial forecasting, roadmap planning, market analysis, resource allocation and organizational design.

  • Strong sprint planning skills — able to turn high-level objectives into actionable, distributed tasks with a focus on shipping.

  • Reasonable proficiency in software development/engineering concepts

  • Experience working with LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, etc.)

What we are looking for

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and wearing multiple hats

  • Passion for creating intuitive, user-friendly experiences

  • A proactive mindset and a bias toward action

  • Experience in startups or other dynamic, high-growth settings

  • 2-4+ years of experience working as an IC collaborative teams

  • Familiarity with “computer-use” models (e.g., Operator, Computer Use, Browser Use)

  • Experience using AI tools effectively (e.g. Cursor, Windsurf, lovable, GPT etc.)

  • 1-2 years of management experience
