Pacific Biosciences is seeking an experienced, highly motivated metrology engineer to join the Consumable NPI team to work on current and next generation products. This opportunity involves working as part of a highly diverse, multi-disciplinary team to produce and develop highly complex and biologically integrated consumables for the sequencing technology.
The ideal candidate is a very independent thinker and self-starter who works great in a team setting as well as on individual projects. A broad knowledge of consumable or chip metrology is essential. This person will work very closely with internal/external partners to improve and ensure the quality of consumable metrology, and to support the yield improvement efforts throughout the product lifecycle.
The candidate must have an appetite for solving complex problems requiring holistic evaluation of product factors and actively seek opportunities for improvement based on statistically meaningful, data-driven conclusions. Software and database experience and advanced data analysis skills are also highly desirable.
Responsibilities include:
Developing, improving, and sustaining chip metrology processes to support both R&D and high-volume manufacturing
Providing hands-on support for all technical and data aspects of chip metrology activities on the production line, including proprietary in-house metrology tools
Working with external partners, R&D, QA, manufacturing, and supply chain to meet production targets and drive timely execution of engineering projects
Designing and executing statistical analyses, such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC), to identify the physical failure mechanism and improve yield and quality
Designing and performing Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Process Capability Analysis, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R)
Developing and preparing clear and concise documentation including SOP, travelers, batch records, ECOs, NCRs et al
Mentoring junior engineers and providing guidance as needed
Required Qualifications:
Typically requires 9-12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or a minimum of 7-10 years with a Master’s degree; or a minimum of 6-9 years with a PhD.
A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biophysical Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Proven ability to establish and maintain close and effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors
Experience with photonic chip metrology and proficiency in an electro-optical laboratory environment
Significant proficiency with JMP, MATLAB, SQL, Perl, or Python
Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge in NPI, CAPA, FMEA, Statistical Process Control, and lean manufacturing
Analytical and data driven mindset
Thrives in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Positive attitude, and a strong team player
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Require working in a clean room or lab environment and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs
15% international travel may be required
Preferred Experience:
Experienced with photonic chip metrology is a plus
Experienced with consumable chip NPI for sequencing technology is a plus
Knowledge of the function testing consumable chip for sequencing technology is a plus
Knowledge of biochemistry and/or NGS is a plus
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
This role is required to be onsite Monday-Friday.

Salary Range:
$148,200.00 - $222,200.00
