About PacBio:

At PacBio, we are transforming genomics with cutting-edge long-read and short-read sequencing platforms that deliver unparalleled accuracy and biological insight. Our mission is to empower scientists and healthcare providers to better understand the genome and improve lives. Our technology is widely adopted across research, clinical, and translational applications - from population-scale programs to precision medicine and rare disease diagnostics.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Business Development Manager to lead and expand our presence across North and South Asia, with a base in Singapore. This position plays a critical role in advancing national genomics programs, especially in precision medicine and population genomics. The ideal candidate will bring deep regional expertise, a proven track record of winning national-level genomics tenders, and hands-on experience in both long-read and short-read sequencing platforms.

This role is tailored for a professional with experience in government engagement, strategic partnerships, and regional commercialization—especially someone who has led large-scale genomics initiatives in Japan, Korea, and India, and has worked with stakeholders such as the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Commercial Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic market development plans for North and South Asia, with emphasis on precision medicine, rare disease, and public health genomics initiatives.
  • Identify and win national tenders and public genomics projects, working directly with government agencies, public hospitals, and key consortia.
  • Lead and manage cross-functional execution teams (e.g., sales, marketing, field apps) to ensure successful platform adoption across key institutions.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with stakeholders in the genomics and healthcare ecosystems across Japan, Korea, India, and surrounding regions.
  • Evaluate market dynamics, develop go-to-market strategies, and provide competitive intelligence to inform product positioning and business development opportunities.
  • Serve as a scientific and strategic liaison between APAC and global teams, especially in supporting platform launches and clinical market expansion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 12 years of work experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of genomics platform experience in a sales or market development role.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and winning large-scale national genomics or population health projects.
  • Deep understanding of sequencing workflows and applications, with hands-on experience in both long-read and short-read platforms.
  • Proven experience working in or with North Asia (Japan, Korea) and South Asia (India and neighboring regions).
  • Strong relationships or collaboration experience with government agencies and/or international trade bodies (e.g., U.S. Embassy, U.S. Commercial Service).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to work cross-functionally in a dynamic and global environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Market strategy development and execution.
  • National tender and public project bidding experience.
  • Regional business development in Japan, Korea, and India.
  • Government and public sector engagement.
  • Cross-functional team leadership.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of precision medicine and public health initiatives in Asia.

Preferred Experience

  • Long-read sequencing technologies experience.
  • Prior experience relocating to or working across multiple countries in Asia.
  • Entrepreneurial experience or demonstrated leadership in early-stage genomics initiatives.
  • Prior involvement in public-private partnerships or strategic alliances for healthcare innovation.
