The Cloud Database Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day management, optimization, and maintenance of the company’s cloud-based databases. This role requires a hands-on professional who can implement, configure, and troubleshoot cloud databases, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with both relational and NoSQL databases, serverless or server-based, and ideally also search engines. They will have experience in automating database management tasks in a cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Setup and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain cloud-based databases (relational and NoSQL, or serveless services) to meet the business’s needs for performance and scalability with cost-optimization.
Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of cloud databases, adjusting configurations, indexing strategies, and storage to ensure high-speed data access.
Monitoring & Maintenance: Set up database monitoring systems to ensure uptime, detect issues proactively, and respond to any outages or failures promptly.
Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup strategies, ensuring that data is recoverable and systems are resilient to outages or failures.
Automation of Operations: Automate routine database management tasks like backups, scaling, failover, and patching using cloud tools (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Automation).
Security Management: Work closely with the security team to ensure data is stored securely, manage encryption, and implement access control policies.
Collaboration with Cloud Data Architect: Work closely with the Cloud Data Architect to ensure that the implementation aligns with the overall data strategy and architectural goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Cloud Database Experience:
Strong knowledge of cloud-native databases and services such as Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, and Redshift.
• Database Management:
Experience with database administration tasks such as patching, backups, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
Performing Tuning Skills:
Proficient in performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization for both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Automation Experience:
Hands-on experience with scripting and automation tools in the cloud (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform).
• Troubleshooting:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving database-related issues.
• Collaboration Skills:
Ability to work with architects, engineers, and DevOps to ensure smooth database operations.
